If you're a normal user there's absolutely no reason to be using Linux. The GUI sux, crashing all the time and installing/maintaining software is way too difficult. The normal user doesn't even know wat software dependencies are 
A programmer like me can just about understand the manuals provided with popular applications like for instance Apache or MySQL.
If you're a system administrator however, Linux can be the OS of choice. It's cheap, stable, and everything is being configurated very straightforward with simple text files.
I would recommend Linux for use as a server but certainly not as a desktop environment.
