M-Team Joint Map Project - Help Wanted

M-Team Joint Map Project - The First Map To End All Maps

This is the Unreal "Map To End All Maps" Project, created by the M-Team (we're called the M-Team, because MTEAM is an acronym of Map To End All Maps).

It is a project to create a joint-development-map between many of Unreal's mappers. Basically, it is a project where each mapper makes one single area of the map, and these areas are put together in some way to create the final product.

Areas can have any theme at all, from ancient labyrinth to underwater observatory. This mis-mash of styles will serve the following purposes:

1. Mappers have different specialities, and this will allow them to contribute their absolute best work.

2. Players will enjoy having many different themes in the same map, as long as we set it up right.

3. This is the best way to experiment on multi-themed maps. It's very exciting, because none of us will know how the end result will look.

Any mapper can join the M-Team, as long as you accept these rules:

1. You need to not think you are the best mapper in the world. It may be the case that you may build an area which you think is the best you've ever seen, and others on the M-Team may not like it, and decide to exclude it from the project. They will, however, tell you why, so you can take thier advice under your wing and submit another area for consideration.

2. Equally, you have just as much say in wether or not another mapper's area is included in the final map.

3. You must be patient. Many mappers don't have as much time as you do to map, so it may take some time to gather sufficient areas to complete the project.

I, Xavious, am the producer, and Buster<KoR> is the design lead.

Think you can contirbute to this project? If you think you can make an area good enough to be included in this (remember, we are looking for only your best efforts), then go ahead and get mapping! There are no restrictions on experience or previous fame. Any mapper can have a go at it. Once you are done, send it to projectmap@shaw.ca , or, if that fails, try and reach me or buster at our respective messenger adresses.

If you would like to lend your expertise to any other field, such as scripting, then email me or buster (or reply to this topic, or add us to your messenger)

Also, remember that all suggestions will be considered, wether related to the individual areas or otherwise. Got a good idea for a map name? Tell us. Found some cool music tracks? Send us a link.

If you do decide to help out, then welcome aboard!

Stage 1: Making Areas.

Note: If you want to send us an area, and want to make it alot easier on me and buster (especially buster, since this applies to his job), please make a list of ALL textures and sounds you use in your area. If not, thats ok too, but it really would be a great help if you did. Send us this list, in a .txt, .rtf, or .doc format, along with your area. This will help us a great deal while putting together the final map, since all textures must be loaded for your areas to be copied and pasted into the final map.

1. The mapper makes his area of the map. It is to be made in its own map, ready to be copied and pasted into the final map. This area must match the following criteria:

A. It can occupy a space no bigger than 4096 by 4096 by 4096UU.

B. 2048 Polygon maximum.

C. No keypoints (apart from AmbientSounds) or Inventory are allowed in the areas. These will be added into the final map.

C. No new content (no new textures, sounds, music, or scripts).

D. No skybox.

E. Must have two blank walls of area 256 by 256.

F. Bots should not be considered in your area. Do not bother trying to make it bot-friendly because no botpaths will be added in the end.

G. Any triggers, movers, or anything else using tag/event, must be named <mapper's_name><tag/event_name>. For example, were i to make a trigger in my area, i would name the event 'xaviousevent1' and the tag 'xavioustag1.'

H. No distructable items or critters.

3. Exceptions to the main area criteria will be granted, but there must be an extremely good reason for doing so. For example, if you wanted to add a new sound for a lift, you must ask first, and it will be considered. Also, if you had a particularly good area in mind, which might be longer than 4096UU, but with a smaller hight and width, then an exception could be granted.

4. Your finished areas should be sent to the above email adresses only! None of these areas should be made public. Any area which is released for use on servers, even among small groups of people, will not be used. If an area is made as a collaboration between two people, however, this can still be used.

5. Once a good few areas have been done, we shall start talking about the next stage.

That's it for now. Thanks for reading!
