}TCP{Notifier feature requests

Post by Hyper »

I added the }TCP{Notifier to my Windows 2000 install and set it to auto-start with Windows. (Yes, this IS a compliment for the software :))

Now I run it for some time, I got two small feature requests about the notification tooltip:
  • Can there be an option to automatically close the red notification tooltip after eg. 5 seconds? It can be a bit annoying when it stays on screen while doing other things like working in MSOffice.
  • Can the colour of the notification tooltip and font be configurable? I would like to set it to the default Windows tooltip colours to fit better in the total desktop environment.
  • Sometimes it says: x players found, 0 new. Is it possible to also show the non-new players if they match the "to notify" players?

:D

First two can be easily applied. Third requires a bit of work.

hmmm... maybe other suggestions? But real improvements, and no multithreading now :P (It requires total redesign/recode)..

Will be done soon. :)

When I first used the notifier the single threaded design bugged me because it responds slowly to the mouse input. But now it's configured it just sits in the system tray and works like a charm. And the memory usage is fairly low with almost 5 MB.

More feature requests: Not yet, maybe when I use it a bit longer. Or maybe a bit more info about how the name input works. (For example syntax and wildcards etc)

It just searches non-case-sensitively :D for strings in names of players.
...if I remember correctly

I have to say I didn't test it too much, so TCPN 3.1 is kinda beta software.
I think all ppl should find something nice for them in this release, beacause I have made all requested improvements
Have a fun and pls report any troubles and/or post oppinions.

ow, and don't forget to read ReadMe.txt before ask any questions

Conditions:
  • playing U or not: Not playing
  • system version: Windows 2000 Professional 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4
  • what tcpn was doing before crash: Sitting in the system tray, maybe checking.
  • is 'insane' option turned on: yes (i'll try disabling)
  • System specs: http://www.xs4all.nl/~duivenv/sys/hardware.htm Note: The mouse has changed)
Edit: I disabled the insane option and it has not had problems yet.
Edit2: Still stable. The problem is probably with the insane option. It's no problem for me to leave insane off.
