DOSBOX

Post by }TCP{Snowbird »

Hi guys. I have been trying to get some of my old games working again, and most of them are from the "DOS" age. I have found out, that there is a good program out there, that can help simulate D.O.S. I have tried it, and it looks promiseing, but I can not get one of my games working. The game is "Armored Fist 2" and keep getting the memory error, that we used to get when we were useing a pentium 75 mhz. :) Thhe extended memory is just not enough.

Does anyone out there have expieriance with DOS and or the project DOSBOX?

ANY help is apprietiated. Frank

The best place to ask for help about Dosbox is the Vogons forums:

First, I'd recommend, if you don't, to get a frontend, so you won't have to fiddle with the .conf files directly.

I'd recommend DBGL:
http://members.quicknet.nl/blankendaalr/dbgl/

There in the Machine tab (or section if you directly edit the .conf files) you will have a lot of options to tweak for memory.
Hopefully, you will solve your issue this way. Post back if that is not the case and I'll try and get the game and see what I can do.

I remember I've been fiddling around with the CONFIG.SYS to get DOS games working back then. To enable and increase the extended memory, you have to set up EMM386 in the right way and get rid of everything that is not essential for operation. I always used different CONFIG.SYS files for different applications.

Never seen DOSBOX though, so I can't help you there...

@ lilalurl: I will give this a try right now.

@ COCO: I remember the fiddling also. It took me hours to get some games running, but to the life of me, I can not remember anything about it. Old age... :D

this program takes out most of the problems we used to have, but the way this program works, is not yet familiar to me. Not YET!!! I will get there though. :)

Thanks î-øLùJà^, I am still looking.
