i realy don't know, how to name this topic

Post by THC_54j0 »

hello }tcp{

some time ago, i asked if u would let me join your family. patience was never my virtue, so i'm pulling down my request for good. but patience is not the main thing, actualy. i've been reserching and found out, there are no ut2004 clans in lil' Slovenija(hell knows why... maybe cause there are only 2.000.000 ppl living here :P), so im planing to establish a new one. for now, i have only 3 interested folks, and only 1 of them is around 90% serious about it. well, its a plan, a long shot actualy(it will take months before we will call ourselfs a clan - if this shall happen at all!), but im optimistic, either way.

the reason why im writing this post is - well, i know -sh1t- about establishing a clan, all i organised so far, was birthday parties and private drinking festivals :P. if you guys could show me the direction towards first steps, i'll be very thankfull. i never even put up a server, made a map, web-page or anything else - i was only playing the game.

i also have a direct question: would you let me join your ONS training sessions(if there are any)? ONS will be the main game style for the 'wannabe' clan of ours :], and i realy want to see, how things work, if there is some organised game-plan (like i wrote before - months could pass before me and the crew put ourselfs together and i would like to have some insights before that).

this is all for now, i hope i'm not 2much a nagger :P

Hello THC_54j0 :)

I think it is great that you took the initiative and organized something (or at least planned doing so).
I personally don't have much experience with clans, but I think there are three main factors you'll need for sure:
* A server: At least one server would be good so that you have a place to play and train
* A homepage with a forum: The forum is important so that members can communicate with each other
And most important:
* Enough people who are willing to put time into this (if you don't have this, you'll end up doing everything on your own and your project will most likely fail).

About our ONS training: I am sure most people would be disappointed about how our training really is. We just play - not much tactics. Some people aren't even on Teamspeak.
Some of our members (including me) tried to change this, to establish a more serious training which differs from the usual "just for fun"-playing on our ONS server.
IMHO, the attempt mostly failed this far :-/

I personally have no concerns with you looking how we train. I believe, you'll have to talk about that with Carnage, though.

I wish you good luck with your project! I hope for a good friendship between your new clan and }TCP{ :)

If you're serious then we gladly help where we can, and yours wouldn't be the first clan we helped take off ;-)

If you want to know what mods and technical knowledge you need to run servers, I think the Unreal Admin page is a good place to start. It also has all the necessary security fixes needed for relative online-safety.

Yes, a forum is rather important. There are free ones existing usually advertisement sponsored or with some limits, and I can't really point you to any good one. You should look around which ones exist and make your choice, or just look what other clans are using. I'm afraid we're self-hosting, todo that you'll need some bandwith, a database (mysql) and an Apache with a PHP engine - and the PHP board software of course. I wouldn't bother learning about the technical intricacies unless you're sure you want to host yourself though.... Carnage can attest the task is possible, however ;-)

You should have a set of rules and goals for your clan, such as member conduct, tryout rules etc... think of something that makes sense to you (that much time tryout, must be skilled/have right attitude, no trash talk etc. etc.) and formulate it. I wouldn't go about setting up your clan without some clearly staked out pointers at least.

You may hold some spots open for specific jobs that may occur in your clan, because as leader you already have a lot of responsibilities keeping stuff right and your people in line. Useful positions in the clan (typically) are such as: match organizer, news poster, training manager, recruiter... just to name a few. At the beginning, you will likely hold all of these positions in personal union, but once your clan has reached a certain size you will want to delegate.

The most important thing for you to start off with, however, is this: you have to know what you want your clan to be like, and then establish the technical and ethical grounds to realize your goals.

Hi THC!

Well, the_kay and me were doing this recently. But we're planning to structure it all a little better. The last few times, it was hardly more than just playing together. The biggest problem seems to be to find a date for ONS training. The only possibility seems to be to do it parallel to the TAM training, and as a result we always have just few players training ONS (some clan members play TAM & ONS and prefer TAM in case of question).

It makes sense not to clash ONS training with the Sunday meeting imo :)

Hi Ramses!

Yes, I know. I tried to find another date months ago already. But it seems like Sunday evening is the only one. :-(

Good news (for me and my crew :P) !!!

Saturday, me, thc_grizlly and ombobombo(a.k.a. thc_ombo), played a try-out 3vs3 match against the old [3o] ONS crew (which now, as the rest of the clan, plays vCTF). The deal was, if we win, we get in, and can start an ONS section in their clan. It was a very good game, both teams played with great skill, but as we three "thc's" play ONS constantly, we managed to defeat them (they had teamspeak and played VERY organised, respect for that, at start i was afraid, we might lose the game).

We played:
-Torlan; 3:2 in our favour (we lost the first round even before overtime, the reason were probaly our nerves - and their excellent tactics, provided by teamspeak. Since this was the first "war" for us "thc's", we had no tactics or TS at all)
-Primeval; 3:0 in our favour (we managed to "snatch" the victory in the first round, leaveing only 1-2% diference between the cores, and then quickly won the second round, as our nerves were much calmer @ the end)

It was a great experience, it gave me some insights, how "real" ons teams play, what the advantages of teamspeak are, and helped me to overcome a part of my stage-fright :P

So, the three of us are in. We'll have our own section on their (our) forum soon, and maybe, we will get an ONS server in the near future.

Im writing this mainly, cause i wanna BRAG!! - joke :P. The truth is, i wanna thank u tcp's for all kind words, when i've decidet to establish a clan ( or in this case, an ons section in an existing clan). I'll soon ask for the help, u've prommised a couple of lines above :P
And special thanks to Mr. Coco, something he said in the morning before our "great battle", made me go into fight with much less fear, as it would usualy take.

I hope, i'll see some of you guys on our forum, which can be easly found on www.3oclan.com

P.S.: since our lines are quite thin atm (3 players), i hoped, we could do some training with you tcp's, till we have a bigger team.

TNX + Have xtreme FUN!

But.. didn't we need good ONS players?
Why aren't we accepting this dude into the clan.
If we wait any longer, all good players (ons) that ever replied will give up lol.
I thought we all agreed that we need more members..

Hi!

As I said on the server already: My congratulations for you to make it into their clan. I'm happy that my words were helpful! :-)

A pity that TCP was voted to be full at the time you applied to join. You'd have been a good addition to our ONS team, I think.

@Ghost: They had their trial match exactly the same day when I told 54j0 that we might accept some more ONS members soon. And although he was very interested, he didn't want to let the guys down who gave him the chance, which I personally think is a great move. Bad luck for us. :-|
