Hi there, TCP'ers, long time no see!
I am having a problem that I hope you can help me with. I'm not even sure if it's related to UTF or perhaps a setting in UTF. The issue I am having is that if I run a Sniper's Paradise map on my Unreal 1 server, the zoom function on the weapons does not work. I've talked to Rush about said issue, and he thinks that it's a UTF issue b/c he runs EDM and doesn't have the issue. I don't think it's a UTF issue, but if I knew that for sure, I wouldn't be in here wasting your time with this problem lol. Any ideas on what the problem could be? I'm running UTF10C by the way. Thanks in advance!

It is an UTF "issue" in so far that all custom zoom weapons cease to function to prevent using the FOV cheat. This is documented somewhere. UTF supports custom weapons except those with zooming abilities. If you absolutely want those you will have to use EDM. Sorry.

Please be especially aware that RUSH has stolen sourcecodes in the past from both me and Smartball and that I do not support anything he does. He is the sole reason UTF's sourcecode is not public nowadays. Just that you know what an asshole this guy actually is.

Ok thanks for the info Wolf. I pretty much thought he was an asshole for the simple fact that he has so many different updates of his mods and he never re-names any of them. Than my thought of his assholedness level went up when I e-mailed him and he pretty much didn't give a shit about my problem. And now that you told me he stole sourcecodes from Smartball and yourself, I think the term asshole is being too kind :?
And I appologize if I sounded like I was bashing UTF. Far from it. If it weren't for people like you, Smartball, Diehard and others I probably would've stopped playing this artifact long ago.

For custom zoom weaps a server-based, customizable exception list could be nice. Not just for the Snipers Paradise weaps but for all non-standard zoom guns.

About Rush: Because he obtained source code without asking the programmers community have every right to hate him, but I also want to mention that I know him from his server and forums, I know him as a nice guy who provides a great service to the Unreal community. He pays a lot for his servers and invests many time to provide his servers for free.

I can understand that your pissed off about him not giving credits for your and smartballs work, I know i have been pissed off to the bone in occasions when similar things happened to me :(


But i also agree with Hyper, he does do alot for Unreal at the same time. He did (re)mod stuff so people have some very cool mods to play with, along with alot of converted maps. And indeed he has servers running and a website that offers alot to Unreal.


But yeah, he does have that other side :? Using others work alot as far as scripts, maps etc. And mismatches, those go hand in hand with RUSH, both for mods and textures :?



As for the initial subject, is there is a function in UTF that can be disabled(or enabled), so FOV can be used ?

At this moment the CW server runs some of his maps, but we replaced the weapons with normal ones (RUSH did the replacement)

The other solution is indeed to switch to EDM if you want to run such weapons. EDM is still a very good mod, the main problem we had was the server chrashing too often during(i should say directly after) mapswitch.


And to BAH, i did ask BringIt, but she already did ask this to RUSH in the past, and his answer was the same as you already had, that he cannot solve it, and that the problem is related to UTF. (which Wolf concures in his post above)

An addable list of zoom-weapons was not added because frankly my assumption was Unreal is mostly dead, so in the last updates I just focused on stuff I was explicitely asked for or I personally wanted to fix/add.

If an addable list of zoom weapons (or the possibility to disable FOV cheat checking) is requested, then one of those will be done in the next update (provided there is a next update). No at the moment the FOV cheat check cannot be disabled.

And as to giving RUSH credits for anything....

His stolen codes alone wouldn't be so bad all alone, indeed as you can remember UTeamFix up to 9b had the full sources included with permission for reuse of the code for learning and modding purposes - WITH ONE SINGLE CONDITION: credits were to be given duely to me.

Instead of giving credits, RUSH carefully edited out EVERY reference to me (or Smartball), INCLUDING SOURCE CODE COMMENTS! As a result, he "sold" the whole thing as his own work. I don't care what he does and how much money he spends on his (in my opinion crappy because of the maps) server. He stole code, removed all credits, did not even follow the one single easy condition placed on its reuse and put his name on it.

'nuff said.

Hi Wolf!

I can completely understand your reaction. As a coder, you simply lose all honour if you do this. It would have been so easy to give credits, but as it seems, this guy wanted all the glory for himself. And now, obviously, he got the exact opposite: everybody knows what he did and he has lost all acceptance as a coder that he might have had.

P.S.: We had many of those in the demo scene, so I know what I'm talking about.
