Control probs with the keyboard caused by W-LAN

Post by }TCP{Skarijscout »

Hello friends,

skarijscout is here again and would like to report about his W-LAN problems. Perhaps the one or other have the same problem at its radio network.

The symptoms were always the same, my keyboard worked no longer properly in the game. So I could not steer no more vehicle in the regular game for example, or jump in and get out of the vehicle.

The solution was due to an adjusting in the W-LAN router. There I have allocated a firm IP-address instead of DHCP for my workstation. Up till it works ;-)

See you soon, your
skarijscout

Control probs with the keyboard caused by W-LAN (Part II)

Post by }TCP{Skarijscout »

Hi tcpclan-gamers,

it's me again with some new hints, if you have control-problems with your keyboard, caused by lag-problems while you are gaming over a W-LAN.
Whenever you can't fire a gun, jump on a vehicle, or get out, read the following Postings and above! And don't think you have a problem with your keyboard!

Most of the time my W-LAN is running fine, but sometimes it drives me crazy. Now i' ve made the following experience:

1. I screw down the W-LAN Speed from Max to 11 M/bit/s.
2. I put a constant Ping to my W-LAN Router. (ping

I don't know exactlly what happens sometime. Maybe a fault between the Netgear-Router and the D-Link W-LAN Card. The fact is that sometimes my Router lost Internet Connection with my provider.

Last night everything is working fine - i hope so for the future ;-)

Perhaps we see us tonight ;-)

Yours - skariscout

...it's simple:

1. Open a DOS-Box
2. Type 'ping + ip-adress from your W-LAN Router + -t
(for example: ping 192.167.100.1 -t)
3. You can also ping a www-adress - also:
(for example: ping 217.72.195.42)
you only need to know the adress from the www-server.
Sometimes www-servers do not answer your ping, than a firewall
kills your request. So take an other IP.

Last point is very helpful when you want to force a constant Internet-Connection without any idle time!

Constant ping? If you need that I suggest a serious hardware upgrade. Normally a wireless network card doesn't automatically close the link and neither does the access point.

Where is my DOS-Box?

It's a joke? Isn't it? ;-)

But seriously, if you use a Win2000 /XP System, you find them under:
START / Programs / Accessories / MS-DOS prompt
Or similar. It's Depending on language ;-)

If you manage a Linux-System, Ping command also exists. But i don't know the specific syntax.

Anything else? :D

You are right!

It is the point that I have just bought the Netgear Router newly. The old D-Link unfortunately did not support any WPA encoding and had reach problems.

Yes, I called these the evil spirits ;-) Now I have WPA encoding and a proper sending- receiving power, but...

Next time i will try a Netgear W-LAN Card instead of the D Link.

I hold on.

I'm using the GNU free* operating system with Linux as the kernel...

And the programm to get a ping is....[guess]

right, "ping"! ;)
