Did you know there are more exploits in Linux than there are in Windows, and that Red Hat doesn't patch them as frequently as Microsoft?

1) Linux it's not Red Hat
2) Even if Microsoft patch vulnerabilities more frequently, Windows users don't update their systems so frequently (if they update at all) like Linux users do. Most of them turned off autoupdate after installation immediately.
3) When security hole in Linux system or application is discovered, patch is released even in hour after notify. Windows users many times had to wait months.

In the it-literature I read it is furthermore suggested that the total cost of ownership of Linux based servers is way higher than of Microsoft based ones.

Probably they didn't add costs of reinstalations, data losts and standstill times caused by successful attacts and special feature aded to every M$ product - ability to self hang.

It is well known that Linux doesn't provide a solid graphical user interface yet, so it isn't even an option for most professional users.

1) Linux is UNIX system. Do you want to tell me that graphisc stations have not solid graphical user interface???
2) New Xes - Xorg - brings into being because XFree86 has changed licence. I'm working now using it. No problems.
3) As accelerated GUI as OGL is working well under Linux.
4) ATI and NVidia provides drivers for Linux now. All good hardware developers know that Linux is not some kind of exotic system, and know they should to support it - drivers or specs.
5) Since version 2.0 GIMP operates with CMYK as well as with RGB. Why to use cost expensive Photoshop now?

What exactly does Linux rule?

Why there are suggestions to use Linux systems in UE addministration? Why ppl use Linuxes as routers using Pentium 1 processors instead of buying expensive CISCO hardware? Why there are more www pages served by Apache than IIS?
Linux can get almost any role! And this determines its power! There are carefully made distributions for musicans, administrators (from 1 diskette for every network use, through rescue cds and cd with all raedy to run systems, to big, bussiness oriented distributions which you can buy with support), personal stations (free office), graphics stations and more. Just try to count all special and specific applications made for use under Linux. Choose some and try to find equivalent software made for Windows. I think it's not truth that there is more (thinking not about number but kind) programs for Windows. Look at Windows "home" developers. They do their poor closed source software and don't have time to develope them, to fix bugs. There is too much programs which do the same, but all not like you wish. In Linux community if someone starts new project, and it's going well ppl don't start to make their own versions. Because this is open source community they join to projects and programs become better and better. Fixes are included faster and faster. Functionality is growing fast too.
So questions shoud be: Why ppl still use Windows?
Answer is simple: because they are lazy! Some oprions in config files and need to read manual is to much to do they think. So they still use, anyway missconfigured, windows only-click applications. Because they are lazy! They think developer should setup functions as they could wish, so they do nothing after installation. Look, same ppl, when buy new car and start to drive what do? Correct mirrors, seat and so. Why? Because they know they have to and there is no another way out.
Just are lazy!

What's the point in having a virus scanner running in background if...

1) you never use IE
2) you almost never download warez etc
3) don't use any MS product except Windoze itself

....

Some worms actively search for online windows PC's to infect. Windows still has many security holes, and some smart worms can exploit these holes without the use of email or IE. A firewall and an updated anti-virus tool are must-haves for every always-online system. Even for linux systems.
