fire golems arnt good. blood golems are. they takea portion of the damage they take a share it between you and the golem. combine this with the iron maiden (shut up) spell, and the damage the golem recieves gets converted to life, which almost makes you and your golem invenrable. it doesnt always work, but its one of the best ways to level up in the secret cow level

Xavious wrote:im probably losing the battle here, cause i really cant be bothered to put down al the things u can do in diablo. cause theres quite a few people who just say everything that they have heard that is bad about a game, wether or not they know anything about it. one thing i do agre with is the thing about owning the spiders. although no1 ever says that about spiders unless thier joking around with thier best clan buddy or whatever. mostly its said after some big lvl guy kills another big lvl guy.
For somebody who does have a clue about the game, you have a lot of statements to prove my sayings wrong :/
The things that you like (for whatever reason..maybe its your first or only PC game..) probably mostly involve online play, which I wont count in, since a normal game should also be fun offline.

And now

That one just broke your proverbial neck :/
By saying all that frightening stuff, you admit that you're a fanatic.. Problem with being a fanatic is, that your vision is clouded. To uncloud it, you need outside help and there I am giving you enough reasons to see the real deal :O
Its clickfest..its nothing more..and its nothing less..it cant be less...there is no less..Do you know those shareware programs to test your reaction speed that require you to click boxes as soon as they appear ? Make sprites out of the boxes, add some wack items, bottles and backgrounds and voila, we've got a blockbuster :O

It all depends on what types of game that you personally enjoy playing. There is really no point in saying that such and such is naff because although you dont like it others will.

I enjoy RPGs because I like exploring virtual worlds and finding new bits of kit and getting little rewards for solving simple puzzles etc. Balders Gate (and Neverwinter Nights) is generally seen as good for the characterisation and storyline and interaction with NPCs etc but personally I prefer not to have to read reams of text (like this) before I can progress so I like games like Dungeon Siege (top marks). Diablo was fun as was Diablo2 on LAN (though i didnt like the graphics as much in the second game). The best single player RPG for me is Morrowind ... so much freedom to wander and explore :)

I didnt play FPS games like Doom and Quake for some years because I thought that they would be too arcadey and rely too much on reaction and repetition etc, which to me is boring (I hate platform games), and I generally prefer games that require some thought. But when I set up a LAN I found that there was great enjoyment to be had in fragging someone ... particularly peeps that you knew  . The exploring bit is there in most FPS games :) and even when you are outskilled you can appreciate the skill of the opposition and try to emulate them or come up with a strategy to beat them. Just one thing ... why dont all FPS games allow you to play through the single player game in co-op mode ??

Most RTS games seem to have become stale for me though. Command and Conquer was fun when it came out. Age of Empires and Starcraft were excellent (and still look good !) but multiplayer RTS games tend to get in a rut. Having said that I cant wait for the ROME: Total War to be released.

Cee, saying that games in the past were better doesn't always hold true. Its like music; 90% of whats released now is naff and 90% was naff in the past; its just the better titles that get remembered. There are some excellent PC games due out and there have been many in the last couple of years that I have enjoyed :)

Ding Round 4 ... Wolf summon that girl plz

Of course there are good games, but most of them were already done in the past a million times. Now they just get redone with better gfx, sound and odd effects. Back in the past, the companies didnt have much possibilities gfx wise, so they spent more time with stories and gameplay.. Nowadays, they're working more on gfx than on anything else, resulting in piss poor games that dont draw you in. You might get some good games out of it, yes, but even those cant make you wanna play all day long like some old ones did. Its just not the same, I always play a game for 30 mins or 1 hr and then get horribly bored and wanna do something else..

A good example are NHL and FIFA.. I bought NHL 99 and FIFA 98 back then and really liked them, Fifa even had an indoor mode back then :O
Then times changed, I bought NHL 2002 and Fifa 2002 again and while NHL was still a fun game, Fifa got worse.. Stupid AI, no more indoor, the game even had flaws that, when you changed your tactics, all your players played on different positions and also that the opposing team would always move up to the kickoff circle with their defense, so you'd run through their half without any opposition :/
Now theres nhl2004 and fifa2004..And now you need Analogue sticks to even dribble ?? It could be done back then with a damn button and now you need some consolish fuckstick to push around. As if 10 buttons cant be enough to control a game, nooo..Just throw so much crap into it, that it seems like you need to do a quick degree in gameplaying at EA University before you can play the game (not without Analogue pads though). The games once were fun, but now they're bloating em with useless stuff that drenches all the fun out of it and instead makes you feel as if you're actually WORKING instead of playing :P

Masters of Orion 3 was a big dissapointment ... and I was put off buying the latest Lords of the Realm by a review from PCZone. Both of these were classic titles in the past that havent benefitted from the opportunities that todays hardware present. The Corporate Men and Marketing appear to be partly responsible for turning excellent ideas into disappointing titles with their deadlines and budgets. Consoles also dont help as games are dummed down to fit in with the consoles' tech limitations and to fit the Corporations' idea of what the masses want. And pointless gimmicks are introduced in the name of innovation. And ... Bah !

But I still think that there are quite a few games (recent and forthcoming) that excite the immagination and are at least equal to the best from the past.

Nothing will match the ageless charm of U1 of course  :D

U1 isnt charming. varied? yes. Fun? yes. charming? nooooooo.

U1 is good because of errrr...lets say....3 things....

1) it has a small amount of players, which leads to a good sense of community and stuff.

2) it has the most friendly players who wil help you out, which makes it the best game to start out a caeer in the gams industry with.

3) deathmatch and coop both have very few cheaters. if you look in the right places, that is.

et voila.

Telling whats good in a game and whats not, requires you to be a good player, who knows his stuff.. Knowing your stuff -> fanatic :P
