Why sould we be disappointed in the end? I think they got the potential to make something out of it. And they should have learned from their mistakes with UT3, so they likely won't make the same mistakes again.

Disappointed because Epic already about a month ago they would not be making anything new in the unreal universe, which means this is a remake and likely to be F2P or something similar to get people onboard with UE4. To be fair anything that gets people playing UT again would be great.

Well, I'd say: Let them publish something first and rate it afterwards. ;-)
What does F2P mean?

Free to play but costly if you want anything decent in it, UT with a leveling system... *shudders at the thought*

Free to play.
That means that you can download and join the game for free, but have to pay for basic stuff like respawns and health packs. :p

Yeah, I'm familiar with the concept. I just couldn't figure out what the abbreviation stands for. :-P Free to play games almost always are way more costly than those you pay for once. So let's hope this won't be F2P. :-)

The new UT game will be free to play and community orientated and developed. Like I thought it's a pretty clever way of getting people to start using UE4. Here's hoping for a return to the glory days :P

Just a huge correction here. Free to play (F2P) means there are microtransactions going on, but there are no microtransactions here, Unreal Tournament will simply be free to download and play!

Later, there will be a marketplace where modders can share their maps, game types, and other mods.

Catch #1: If you want to make maps, game types or other mods, you currently have to pay for the engine licence, which is $20 per month. You also have to brush off your C++ because UnrealScript is not part of UE4. :) You can also use Blueprint, which is a visual scripting language.

Catch #2: Some developers may choose to charge for mods, however, they are not required to do so by Epic Games. If modders charge for a mod, Epic Games will get a part of the cake, and that's how they plan to get some monetary support (in addition to modders paying for access to the engine).

I do hope/assume a standard level editor will be made available for free after a while, but it's hard to say. There are many considerations.

Great to see some official Unreal Tournament action! :)

Catch #3: My trusty 7 year old, XP powered PC might point it's toes skywards if I force feed it some UT4 :P

Published on 8 May 2014: "Development of Unreal Tournament for PC, Mac and Linux begins today, in the open, between Epic, Unreal Engine 4 developers, modders and the community. The game will be totally free. Meet a few of the folks at Epic who are kicking off the collaboration!"
