Got slow fps? i give u tips !

Post by dargas »

Hello, have you got low fps? your graphic card sux or you simply dont have one? Then you found the good thread, here i'll try to explain the most clearly possible how to reduce the laggs and make you have a bit more fps !

try to disable all the graphics settings, the world details etc like in this screenshot
also reduce the resolution to 800x600 or 640x480
and you can put the gore level to "No Gore"
http://cluex.org/img/?di=AHTD

I tried it and now i always play like that. I used to have 4 gb ram and a nvidia geforce 8800 gts and play with 200-250 fps but one pin of ram (1gb) died and even my graphic card. it happened the last winter. I always been used to 1920x1080 and highest graphic details but it became unplayable ingame (around 10 fps) without the graphic card.

Now with everythings disabled and turned to lowest/low and resolution on 640x480 I've got around 100 fps. :) Of course it takes a bit of time before getting used to those new settings but when its done, u will really enjoy playing ut2004 again !

by the way, if you don't know how to show your current fps: press tab and type: stat fps

I got an uber fast computer with i7-2600K, 16GB RAM and Ati 6950 2GB and I still play with 1024*768 resolution with every setting of UT2004 on it's very lowest. (playing with 4x Super Sampling Anti Aliasing tho).

I can see everything better then ;)

RAM is cheap as hell these days, 6950 is just a mainstream card i believe :P

But no, I 'only' :P got 350 FPS because I use 4x SSAA @ 1024*786. The graphic card basically renders everything in a resolution of 4096*3072 and than shows it again at 1024*768. It makes the graphics more sharp and hopefully helps my aim.

I suggest you buy a cheap graphics card, because everything is better than the onboard graphics :P

Don't get the GTX 550ti I own it and it is not a good card for what you pay, search around you can get better cards for only a little bit more of the cost :)

Do understand this is how it was in UT99. Tickrate differs a bit in UT2004, especially the part where weapon damage is effected.

There was a huge discussion going on about tickrate on UnrealNorth for the MLUT:TDM seasons, where some people wanted to have servers with tickrate 60 instead of 40.

I was first against such a high tickrate, mostly because my knowledge about tickrate was about UT99. I wasn't aware it got changed in UT2004. Now that I have tested it a lot in TDM pickups I actually like the higher tickrate. It allows for a smoother game and less rockets/flak not doing any damage, because the server is updating more often. Weapon damage is not altered in UT2004 while changing the tickrate.

If you wanna read the discussion between pros and cons, you can read it here: http://www.unrealnorth.com/forum.php?ac ... c&id=77972

Seems there are more cons . The article from 2002 still appears valid.
