RAM causing blue screen :/

Post by PingKing »

My pc has broke again! This its because the motherboard has terrible voltage management for RAM.

This is my ram: http://www.ebuyer.com/274035-corsair-8g ... 3m2a1600c9

This is my motherboard: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... x?pid=3762

If you guys would know some good manual setting to set this up and running in 1600mhz and not 1333mhz I would be grateful!

If it works on 1333Mhz, use that. There is no difference between the two besides in synthetic benchmarks. I other words, you won't notice any performance increase or decrease while using 1333Mhz.

If that doesn't work, ur memory might be corrupt. If you bought it newly, see if you can get a replacement or let someone test the memory.

Yeah it also broke whilst running 1333mhz :/ and it is only like 1 month old! So I think its broke :( would it be a bad idea to buy the same RAM again? As due to my large heatsink I need more low profile ram.

Whenever you have corrupt RAM, or suspect it, I highly recommend this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memtest86

to make sure your RAM is working properly. After I once had a corrupt piece of RAM which only occasionally created bit errors, thus resulting in massive file corruption which would at first remain undetected, I now run this tool on ALL my machines I ever build, and ALWAYS after fiddling with the timings.

Thank you Wolf I looked into memtest86 I just don't have a working disc drive to burn the ISO onto :P I have daemon tools though so I will mount it and try that, but moving the RAM into slots 1 and 2 seems to have worked. I will keep you posted :)

You can also download any Linux CD, i.e. Ubuntu, as most of them have a memtest tool in the boot menu.

... which he can (not) burn just as well as the memtest CD :D

(you can make a floppy disk as well btw, USB floppies work flawlessly these days)

Well, that's what friends are there for, aren't they? Unless all your friends are just Facebook friends, of course. ;-)
