Ok, I figured WoW had something to do with World of Warcraft. But I didn't know there was a special mouse for that game. :-P

However, the wheel looks pretty hard with edges... if you press it all the time while playing for an hour, your finger will hurt like hell. :-P

Well, since my Revoltec FightMouse Advanced had a broken cable again (after I've cut out the broken part a few weeks ago and soldered the wires onto the board again), I tend to believe that the cable used for that mouse is of extremely bad quality (probably on purpose in order to make people buy it again). Basically, I didn't do anything but move the mouse in a normal way. This was my 5th mouse of this model already and all had the same issue. It's not being manufactured anymore and you can't get it any longer, so I had to go for another one.

I followed Tronec's advice and bought a Cyborg R.A.T. 7. It came yesterday and I've played with it all evening. So here are my impressions so far.

Pros:
  • It is huge enough, even for my hand and setup. I have to extend it to maximum size though. ;-)
  • The mouse wheel is easily pressable and positioned in a suitable way, so in that regard, the mouse fits well for me. The wheel surface hurts a little after playing a while, but that's nothing I can't handle.
  • The pinky rest really is a good thing that I've never seen at a mouse before. It saves you from holding up the pinky most of the time when moving the mouse.
  • The overall quality of the material is quite good imo. It looked a little cheap at the pics, but I didn't find this confirmed when I unpacked it. The base is made of solid metal with robust plastic parts mounted to it, it seems.
  • The DPI setting can be adjusted freely in steps of 25 and can even be different for X- and Y-movement.
  • Five buttons are configurable. Even macros are possible.
  • The overall handling is good. I had no major problems to adjust to this mouse.
  • The driver and software are ok as far as I can tell by now.
Here are the things I'm not really satisfied with:
  • The thumb rest can be adjusted by turning it outward. For me, the maximum angle isn't really big enough. It's not a big deal, but a little more would have been nice.
  • I have a little problem with the thumb buttons to the left. I use one of them to bring up the Shield Gun. When moving the mouse, I accidentially pressed it a few times during the fights yesterday, which results in me suddenly stopping to shoot when I don't want to and having the wrong weapon. :-P I never had this problem with my old mouse. This one seems to have more exposed thumb buttons.
  • The precision button is positioned too far to the front in order to press it while playing. Therefore, the nice feature of temporarily halfing the DPI for aiming is mostly unusable.
  • I've configured the mouse buttons in the software and saved a profile. However, every time Windows starts up, the standard profile is active again. How can I have my profile loaded by default?
  • I can't really figure out the function of the Mode buttons left of the left mouse button. What's it good for?

The mode buttons make you switch between profiles if I'm correct.
Resistance is futile.

Indeed, I've also just figured it out. You can switch between different button configurations with it. But do you know how to automatically load your profile when Windows starts up?

No I don't sorry mate, however if the program picture is in your active programs bar in the taskbar you can right click it and it shows your available profiles, just click the desired one and it's switched on.
Resistance is futile.

Yes, I found this already. But it's annoying to do this after every boot. :-P

Well, I had some problems with my new Saitek Cyborg R.A.T. 7 mouse in the first few days. The problem was that it didn't precisely recognise the moves I made. In particular, it mostly didn't move when I moved it just very little, e.g. for precision aiming. Therefore, I couldn't really play with it. As it turned out, the problem was my mouse pad. I've used the Raptor-Gaming P5 pad so far. It's a plastic one which is not flexible and offers ultra low friction, which is optimal for precise aiming. My Revoltec Fightmouse Advanced laser mouse worked perfectly on it. Now the R.A.T. 7 doesn't. I've also tried it on the table, without any pad - same problem.

The solution was to try an old cloth pad, on which the R.A.T. 7 finally worked flawlessly. I've checked the Saitek website and found that they also offer special gaming mouse pads for their mice. So I've ordered their Cyborg G.L.I.D.E 7 Gaming Surface and got it today. Man, this thing is HUGE! It's wider than my keyboard and more than twice as high. But that's perfect for gaming! I can move the mouse around a lot without ever leaving the mouse pad. Moreover, it perfectly recognises every small move I make and really offers very low friction (not as low as my old pad, but quite close to it).

I've made two photos for you to check out the size. Note that my keyboard is a regular sized 102 keys one...
