UT2004 64bit anyone?

Post by NmS »

I just installed UT2004 with Megapack (latest patch and all). I also found a 64 bit patch for UT2004.

Is anyone else using this? It uses the DirectX9 rendering (experimental afaik). But I don't see any difference. Same FPS for me as 32 bit.

What version you guys running? 32 or 64 bit?

Haven't been able to play much tho, only 5 minutes with everything on highest settings. Never knew UT2004 had so much detail in the maps, haha :D

There is a special 64 bit patch out for UT2004. It requires you to start the game with a different .exe, so it runs in native 64 bit code. I am not talking about playing UT2004 in 32 bit on a 64 bit windows version.

According to what Wolf told me, both versions have their advantages and disadvantages. I can't quite remember what it was, but it's up to testing which one works better on your system.

Yeah, I will test it when im home again. Need to tweak my UT2004 anyway. I don't want to use my old ini's and want to tweak from scratch instead :D. As long as my sound works the way I want it :P Will be fun again :)

I'm on UT 64bit too.
Some of the disadvantages (maybe just on my PC, respectively there are already solutions for it etc.) are: Lag/freeze of 10-15 seconds every time I enter a server that is running AntiTCC, the CPMA pitch modifier in UTcomp doesn’t work anymore (Hitsound yes, but always the same sound), some of the textures look different now, in the general Audio settings only “Open AL” is available (no EAX or any other options anymore (tried it with OnBoard Sound, X-fi and a Xonar soundcard.))
Still I think it’s running more smoothly now – once it’s running.

Aximon is correct with his "buglist".

In my personal experience it just runs very differently from machine to machine, and from driver version to driver version. I've had the WORST results with modern machines, and the best results with old ones, to the extent that on old machines the performance gain was extreme, whereas on some modern machines performance even dropped below the 32 bit version.

No it makes no sense...

The biggest downside for me is that there is only OPen AL sound driver with the 64 bit version, which sounds crap for me :P

Playing 32 bit now, seems to runs quite smooth :D

Since got this machine, i run it on vista 64bit.
Never got problems with it.... just for UT and and COD MW2
After a while playing in UT (2 a 3 hrs) the sounds go off, and going weird.
All sound going up and down from low to high (from godzilla to chipmunk).
Also when i talk with mic in any chatproggie.

audiomode i got 4 settings; safe, 3D, H/W 3D and EAX.

for that i dont care... and just have fun.
:)
