My Grafic card is dead

Post by }TCP{Snowbird »

Well it has finally died on me. It will take me a few days to replace it, so I will not be around in game for a bit. I still have my laptop/notebook, so I can still write in the forum.

I looked up a few cards, and am not sure which one I want to get. I want one that will have 512 ram, and a dual monitor support, under 200 Euro's ($250). Any suggestions?

Hello. Would you like to come help me in a side-plot that has seemingly no relation to your main quest at all?

Unlucky Frank, but at least you will get a buz if you upgrade a bit.

Like Wigglebottom, I only look at what is available when I need something, but I did find the following list very useful the last time I wanted the card ... http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=88&pgno=0

I have an MSI build ATI 4350 passive which I am willing to give you for free, if you want it. It's a very low profile card though I have no idea about the specs or how much it can do. The cooling heatsink is also rather large so you need some space directly below your GFX port.

Thanks guys.

Yes wiggy, it was fun the last few weeks, because I have been playing more often. As soon as I get the card, I will be back in.

Thank you Rams, for the link. I will look up a good one, and tell ya my results.

As always, Wolf, you are there ready to help out. I will give you a post and tell ya if I will take it off your hands. ;)

I have an nvidia geforce 7600 if you want it.
Resistance is futile.

Most likely what the cheaper model is. I stick mainly to nvidia though.

Now I am not sure if it is the g card, or the mother board. I tested the g card out on another computer, and it worked fine.

I bought a tester card and when I get it, I will let you all know the out come. Frank

Well, I am not really so sure it is my Grafic card anymore. I received a socond machine from a friend, that said I could use it until mine was repaired, and although a bit lower in quality than mine was, it still has enough to drive UT. I put my G card in, and it worked with no problems.

I have a problem though. I tried to install UT Anthology, and cam up with an error.

I got all the way through the keycode, and picked the things that I wanted to install, just UT this time, and I received "CRC Proof" error. This came from disk 1, data1.cab. So the very first thing that it tried to install/check, aborted.

Does anyone have an idea what this is? CRC does not make sense to me. Critical "R" calculation? No idea. HELP ME PLEASE!!! Frank

CRC means Cyclic Redundancy Check and is being used to validate whether data has been submitted (or read) correctly.

In your case, I'm pretty sure that either your CD/DVD ROM drive is having some issues (probably due to dust) or your CD/DVD is slightly damaged or scratched. You could possibly try to use another optical drive in case you got one. You could as well try to create an ISO image of the CD/DVD on another computer and virtually mount it on yours in order to install the game.

OK, thx Coco, I have never had problems with the DVD b-4, and the drive is mine, and never had trouble with it either. I guess the Gods have it against me lately. I will try again, and maybe even make the ISO image. Good idea too. :) Frank

Alright, good luck!

It might probably be a good idea to just get a cleaning DVD with a little brush on it and try it on the drive. There's probably just some dust on the laser lense.
