I have watched Avatar in 3D in the local cinema yesterday. I must say it really is a great movie that I highly recommend to watch! It got impressive CGIs, a good story and fantastic ideas every here and there.
It's been the first movie I've seen in 3D. It requires special glasses (not the red-green ones) that were handed out for free when buying the tickets and that had to be returned after watching the movie. I must say it was very fascinating and the 3D effect is really strong! Sometimes, I had the feeling that I was sitting in the same room with the actors. It requires some concentration, however, and was a little exhausting during the first 30 minutes. But after my eyes had adjusted, it was a great experience after all.Spoiler (mark with the mouse if you wanna know something about the story) wrote:The story is about a planet called Pandora that has been discovered by the humans who want to harvest a very rare and expensive kind of metal there. But there lives a population of intelligent humanoids on the planet that has a great bound to nature and all living things. The humans, however, have some technology that allows them to transfer their mind into clones created from that race. By doing so, they try to study the habits and culture of that race in order to find a way of getting the metal with minimal resistance.
There are some side effects that are not perfect yet. One is that very objects appear to be a little blurry (cause you can't focus in the 3D scene as you would in the real world - the camera still sets the focus). And the other is that whenever objects are close and move out of the screen, they unnaturally disappear from the room that is created between the screen and the eye.
Anyway, it's definitely a fascinating experience and I do believe it will dominate the range of movies offered to watch in the cinemas very soon. I strongly recommend watching this movie in the cinema, rather than downloading a crappy rip that will never match what you get there (and of course you'll lack the 3D features
Coco.
