Hi, yep, exactly right. But a static IP usually is a feature of a business internet connection and costs a bit. I got one only for my little UT server and it's about 15 EUR more expensive than a home use DSL contract (per month of course). But a UT server without a static IP is annoying because it wont stay as a favourite in the UT server browser. You always have to search your server within the internet servers section.
About the internet disconnections: Maybe I missed something but I've never heard of any provider disconnecting because of no load. Technically, how could they detect the need of a re-connection? But most routers have this option in order to save money while using time-based contracts. But if you have a flatrate, you can simply deactivate this feature. Take a look into your router configuration.

Good luck, heinz

Hi!

You're right, it can be the router too. But I once had a provider that disconnected me after 15 mins without traffic - despite flatrate. That really sucked.

In case you have a dynamic IPm you can still use a DynDNS name like erics-rpg.dyndns.org or something. ;-)

A static IP is just 4.99 Euro extra with my ISP here. :-)

Hmm, that can hardly be true, because the 192.168.x.y IP range is reserved for private networks. So I doubt this really is the internet IP address of your server. :-P Is it possible this is the IP address you're using from inside your home LAN? ;-)
