Final version.

I've submitted it to UT Unlimited for review.

Thanks for all the feedback here at the forums, and those who commented during play, and of course Carnage for uploading version after version to the server.

The map is playable. It's been a work in progress on/off for the last couple of months. I think it looks good and plays good, though only tested with masterful bots (has detailed bot support).

Would be cool if it could be added to the servers--maybe even try it out today, if possible. :)

The map has one main hall which connects five floors.
The bottom floor has a lava pool.
Although it's mostly open, there are corridors and a smaller hall on the side.

Have tested it mostly with Freon.

Minor issues:
1. Light sources haven't been added yet.
2. More decorations and a better top ceiling and skybox.
3. The blue, yellow, and purple coronas (flaring lights) are not removed in games that remove powerups. That's why you might see glowing lights where the powerups should be in a normal DM game. (Also depends on the game setting for Coronas.)

Just had ago. Very nice map indeed.
I like the area where the double damage is, with the globe in the middle.
Nice idea. Hope to play this online.

I like that hall too. ^^ Used the same idea (sphere hovering over ddamage) in another, but unfinished map, though. hehe
(Actually, there was a movie named Sphere--*gasp*--which had a perfect sphere in it, but there was no double damage under it! That sphere reflected everything in a room, except the people in it. oooh Scary, or maybe it was too processor intensive to do it otherwise.)

I took a quick peek last night, and it looks interesting. It is a basic map, and I think that it will be fun to play in. I kind of reminds me of Grendel, fook, and a few other fun maps. I would like to take an in-depth look at it later on tonight. Does the Sphere have a purpose, or is it there for the looks? Good effect. Frank

Thanks. It's just a basic decoration. (I have an idea for function for later, but it's more fun for me to leave it as a super secret till then, because it might not be that easy to do--and since I don't mention what, I don't need to feel any FAIL if I throw the idea in the trash. ;))


What function would you expect from a sphere in the air anyway? ^^ It could heal robots, but destroy humans? moahaha err

It could be doable with a projector, I think. That's the effect used in Sanctum to make the water shine on its surroundings. Maybe for another map set in the world of discotheques/clubs. :P

oke, other function:
when it get's shot for 200dmg, it gives a redeemer like explosion
or even better a ion cannon like explosion xD (cannon, not tank ;))

haha It should be doable. How would you see this be used in the game as a tactical advantage? Or did you mean it to be some "extra spice"/random thing for fun?

Maybe the explosion could randomly affect some player instead, regardless of team--then there would be a risk involved to oneself too (instead of firing the last projectile from a distance), but it could also be misused by players in "kamikaze mode," perhaps.

I would just make it move when shot. Then it could give off a disco effect with the mirrors. And also have a sound hooked up to it that "jingles". Other than that, in a closed room, you really could not do anything constructive with it.

eatch 15 sec it shoots a primairy shock beam to a player in sigt of the sphere =P


and i'm prety much a unrealED nono
i only got the idea's of what can be fun =P
so it's all up to you how to do it and if it's possible at all =P

^^ I'll take these suggestions into account when I finalize the map!


The original idea was that the player would link gun (alt-fire) the sphere for N seconds, and it would teleport the player to a random location (respawning the player in mid-air to minimize telefragging (unless frozen players get stacked on top of each other in the destination area). But I dunno, hasn't been thought out. ^^
