grafics

Post by }TCP{Snowbird »

I believe my card is telling me it is tired.

I was doing good, and then I started to get single pics. And then the grafic words and symbols disapeared and then nothing. I will try a few tweaks and see what I can do. Wish me luck. Frank

Ouch ... I wonder whether there is a conspiracy amongst the hardware peeps at this time of year, what with my PSU packing up as well, predetermined obsolescence

Good luck with the tweaks Frank, check the fan is working, clear out the dust etc

Hi!

Yes, good luck. I also get such glitches at times, but it's simply from my weak overall system performance. :-(

@ Rams, Yeah, it is strange that I just downloaded some drivers. And now I get this!!!! OK, my machine is 5 years old, but I never had real trouble with it.
I just talked to the wife, and maybe I will get a new system for x-mas. :/ if not, then Iwill get one after it. :D

Time for some new stuff. Frank

Coco, you me and Sonja, have to talk about grafics cards. I need a new one, and want one that will last a few years.

Hi Frank!

Well, Sonja got exactly the PC with the components she posted in this thread, except for having exchanged the RAM modules (now: GeIL DIMM 4 GB DDR2-800 Kit GB24GB6400C4DC, Black Dragon Series) and added a DVD writer, which she forgot initially.

I can really recommed her graphics card (Gainward HD4870 "Golden Sample"). We did some testing and couldn't make the games jerk at maximum settings! (Tested with: UT2004, UT3, The Witcher)

The card is as thick as 2 PCI slots and also occupies 2 of the backside slot panels of the case. It has 2 fans and needs 2 PCIe power connectors. But still, it's a single card and no dual-card (so the power consumption won't make you poor ;-)). The fans are quiet silent by the way. There were some complaints about early models, but Gainward fixed the noise problem in the current second edition.

Thanks for the info. I am glad to hear that Sonja is satisfied with her setup.

It looks like a super card, and I am really satisfied with the ATI radeon series. With 1 gig of DDR - 5 ram, it really has potential. I am going to wait until after Christmas, and see if the prices go down, and this may be the card I get. I only have one problem. I have a small tower, and it might not fit in it. I do have a spare tower that I could throw all of my stuff into. Thanks again man.

Hi!

Hmm, you mean the card could be too long? Or is it too thick, occupying 2 slot panels?

Anyway, you might have a look at it at the site where Sonja bought it. There are some more pictures (especially one showing how thick the card is) and many technical details. Most of all, they have the exact size measurements in mm, so you can see if it fits. To check it out, use this link (sorry, German only).

Hi,

Make sure you buy a motherboard with 2 g-crad slots.
Mine has only got 1 g-card slot and my card is the radeon HD 2900xt.
1 Gig ddr 4.
But with it being so big it pushes some of my sata cables where they plug in. 1 Of my hard drives kept dissconnecting.( lucky it wasnt the 1 with windows on it ).
And yeh you will need a new tower m8.
I sold my old radeon 1900 to my m8 and it was a nightmare to get in.
This is my case.

If you cannot see this link I can post another.
Gl on your new project.

Hey, the One, nice mini-tower. It is a real design. Nice. I have a basic mini-tower, and just about the same space.

Coco, I just lookewd at the site, and I think I could get it in, but it sits right on top of my sound card, and I think with the fans on the bottom, it might not get enough air. I will have to redesign my computer. I never really liked this minitower. No room to work in.

Thanks guys for your efforts. I will wait until after Christmas, and maybe get a bit of $$$ cash $$$ to play with. ;)

Well, I thought the problem was solved, but it happened again. I am not sure if it is the G card, or a voodoo hex. What ever it is, It looks like I will be buying a new comp soon.

Maybe its getting overheated? See if you still got the errors first time you boot your pc when it was turned off the whole night. So it's still cool etc.
