If you have Reinstalled your computer, without formating, than it will do nothing but reinstall your system imformation. Try this.
Get a free version of " DBAN " This is an erasing program used by the US Gov. I will not post it here, because this does erase EVERYTHING on your computer. There will be nothing left to save. There are others out there that do the same thing, better or not, but I use DBAN, and it has worked for me. It takes a few hours to run, but after that, your hard drive is like a brand new HD. You will also have to format it, so look at the instructions b-4 you use it.
***REMEMBER***
There will be nothing left of your data after you use this. If you have partitions on your harddrive, they will be gone. Be very careful.
But, after useing this, you will know that your HD and you Windows will be clean.
Good luck.

Hi PD,
well, there are a few online solutions (online meens, that your infected Windows is running itself): Try Threatfire, it detects and kills dubious processes. It is like Norton's Antibot, some say, it's better. Or Spybot Search & Destroy. Both do great jobs. Or F-Secure's Blacklight, it reveals rootkits.
If those programs fail because your virus lets Windows restart, imao there are only 3 possibilities left:
1. Easiest way: Give Windows' own system recovery a try and choose a system check point of which u know, that your system wasn't infected.
2. Safe but cruel way: Formatting and erasing data as Snowbird said.
3. Tricky way: A offline solution: Boot a OS from a bootable CD like BartPE (Windows-based) or Knoppicillin (Linux-based). When you have
a virus scanner on this bootable CD, the virus has no chance to hide or to reboot the system.
To erase virusses from your external HDD, the offline virus scanner would be the best way as well.

Theres a few other things you could try to
1.I run avast (its free and good at cleaning off crap from a pc) plus u can also set it to scan during boot(hence taking away the issue of crashing as pc hasnt booted yet before it scans) hxxp://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html
2.I also run spyware blaster (another free app and this can remove and also stop nasties from coming back onto your pc hxxp://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
3.I also run spybot SD this help protect your pc from nasties coming back. hxxp://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
A outside option is you could run housecall (this is a online virus and spyware + greyware scanner and is also free) you can find it at hxxp://housecall.trendmicro.com/
just replace the xx with tt (incase you wondered what i was doing as i dont know if you are allowed to post live links here or not
Also if you install avast and then boot your pc into safe mode you might have even more joy doing a full scan then.
Hope this helps you out a little

im realy to lazy to read all the stuff you guys wrote up there
sry...
but you say the pc reboots, every time you run a antivir and so on!
isnt it possible if its a (simple) virus, that you just kill the process in taskmanager and than delete the virus.
you also can go on start->run and you type: "msconfig" (without ")
than you go (i think) on the last tab. there are the programs which start when windows is booting!
check out whats in there =) maybe you have luck and find something!
gl with that! =)

Hm, I would suggest: backup all important data on external HD (DVD-RW etc.) and format. You also may have a recovery CD to restore your OS. If not format everything.
Then reinstall, update, add some good security software and MAKE AN IMAGE BACKUP. Next time you get screwed, you only have to restore the image.

Hi partydevil!
It means that you're not backing up your system file-wise, but copy complete partitions as a whole (sector-wise that is). Everything on the partitions is copied along with it - files, directories, etc. When restoring such a backup, the system will be exactly the same as it was when the backup was created (even as fragmented as it was before).
You will, however, need a free area on any harddrive that is neither partitioned nor formatted and does at least have the size of the partition to be copied.
To copy a partition, I would suggest to use a commercial software like Acronis Disk Director or Norton Ghost. These tools can do lots more of useful things like formatting a partition with a specific file system (even the Linux ones), resize and move partitions, hide, create and delete partitions, eventually change the filesystem, etc.
Coco.
