Strange High Ping
I am getting high pings on all servers, and I am not sure if it is the new UT that I bought or my computer acting up. I bought the new Antholigy edition (unreal, unreal 2, and ut 2004) last week, installed it, and am getting nothing but high pings. Normal for me is about 70, and I am now getting 200 to 300. Anyone know what this could be? I also looked at my cpu usage, and I am well over the 100% mark. It used to take allot before, but I do not think it was that much.

Hi Frank!
Yes, I think 100% CPU usage is quite normal while playing (although I didn't test it yet). My CPU is too weak anyway, that's why I have such FPS problems although my GPU is more than sufficient.
Anyway, did you check the CPU usage of the single processes? If you click at the Processes tab of the Taskmanager, there should be a column entitled "CPU usage" ("CPU Auslastung" in German). If not, enable it with the "Choose columns" setting in the "View" menu at the top of the window (and maybe it's useful to alter the refresh rate as well). Once you have the CPU usage displayed for each process, you can click the column title to sort the list entries after this criteria (a second click will reverse the sort order).
You should now be able to see which process is using how many percent of the CPU power of your computer. If there's a process other than UT2004.exe using big parts of the CPU power, this could be the reason. If the process belongs to some unimportant application, closing this one should solve the problem.
As for me, I have unusual high CPU usage of the System process (around 30%) when playing UT2004. I have no clue why, because it's at 0% if I don't play. But of course, I can not kill this special process, or at least I shouldn't.
I can only assume that it has something to do with the network traffic that is generated while playing (I don't have such problems if I play locally).

Thanks all for the reply. The firewall should not be a problem, because I have not changed anything, just reinstalled a new UT. This is an upgraded version, editors choice (without the "Buzz" videos) with the patches included. And yes, I have a few higher useage programs that run in the background, but never really bothered me before. I have turned some of them off though. Last night, I was getting better pings, and I will keep trying to locate the culprite. Thanks again.
