As a general opposer of capital punishment I don't think killing Saddam was a good thing.
In my opinion all sentient beings have an unalienable right to life. Taking lives of others is (perhaps excluding euthanasia and other exceptions) not a good thing. But the question is if a bad thing justifies another bad thing. If you kill Saddam the act of killing itself is a bad thing (while it may have positive side effects).
So if you kill another person because this person killed another person, this is not a good thing itself. There is also a logical problem with that. If you kill everyone who kills anyone else, all executioners are murderers, too so that you have to kill them too: It ends up everyone killing everyone for killing anyone and that's not exactly what we want I think.
Looking at the positive side effects of killing Saddam I don't think there are many. Saddam himself would have been sentenced to lifelong prison so he can't harm anyone else anymore. For people in Iraq it might be even dangerous because it could lead to a civil war (although I don't think that will happen just because of Saddam's execution). And just for determent so that there won't be any dictators anymore.... If a guy is hardcore enough to kill so many people you won't stop him with saying: "Hey, if you kill someone else maybe USA will come in 10 or 20 years and kill you"
The crime both committed was basically the same, but you have to remind that Hitler killed much more people... This is no belittlement of Saddam's crimes

I'd be careful with comparing everything to Hitler and the Nazis.}TCP{Skarijscout wrote:Slapi, you are right!
He was like this Nazi-Bastard called 'Hitler' and guilty!

If you have to post such links, please write at least what this video is about so that everyone can decide in advance to watch it or not. This goes for YouTube stuff, too.But never the less - TCP isn't the right place for such vids & links!

Hi!
But, of course, this is just my personal view. Anyone must evaluate this for himself.
Coco.
I totally agree with you, Skarijscout. This is definitely one of the things that I really must not see. In fact, I find it abjectly to watch someone else to be executed, no matter what that person did. There's absolutely no reason to catch it on camera and even less reason to spread it or view it in public. It just reminds me of those public executions in the middle ages and I have the impression that mankind has not developed any further since that time.}TCP{Skarijscout wrote:I wouldn't like to see something like that in future here any more.
