Can't play anymore....

Post by }TCP{Wolf »

As usual, the inexplicable and illogical problems happen to... me.

A few hours earlier this night, I was playing with Carnage, Taz, Chesire and Slap (I think you were the 4rth player) and I left suddenly saying "something is wrong with my mouse".

Well... I think it was an understatement.

For some reason, mouse response has changed since that time. I cannot say that "acceleration" has returned or anything (indeed it has not), but the mouse reacts differently depending on how fast you move it.

So far, I have checked the following without success:
- Logitech SetPoint driver settings
- another mouse, I own BOTH the G3 and G5 which both have the same optical resolution
- An older Windoze Backup which 100% sure used to work!
- Registry fix of mouse accel
- A different USB Controller!

I am now going to make a test install on a totally different computer for further tests. Until further notice, I will not attend any matches, training or any other games. I can't even play offline or any other game for the matter, this whole thing stinks!

Well....

This was not very helpful, which is extremely odd. Why should 2 totally different computer systems show the exact same symptoms (2nd one a blank install) with all mice all of a sudden...

Not sure what I can do at this point, I will probably try to recalibrate my controls for ut2k4 first, but from what I have seen, I will lose precision even in the best case.

Well... I wasn't THAT drunk, and I spent a whole night researching this crap, to no avail.

What I did now was I spent another 20 minutes to re-setup ut2k4, so I may be able to play that, but anything else needs to be re-setup as well: Unreal, UT, and a couple of Q-engine games. Man... I am on holiday once and could use the time to play but instead I am again forced to solve technical difficulties.

Well... I will try to be there tonight for the match but don't expect too much of me.

It's realy strange

U said u did a fresh setup so one would think all the drivers and stuff would be ok ..
Then u would think hardware .. but 2 mice at the same time is kinda strange and not realy credable .

So all in all not a clue .. only thing that pops to mind is the mouse mat ,,, but can't think of anything being wrong with that other then being dirty or something

I don't even use one lol...

Well... ut2k4 has been recalibrated, I need to setup all my other games again though. Seems that Unreal and UT have a problem with the new sensitivity though, so aim will be less accurate there :-/

Hmz; my experience is that most pointer products with "Logitech" on it give trouble in some games. Personally I like Microsoft hardware because it just works. So if you would ever consider a new mouse, check MS and also try to get one with a tail.

U would almost suspect a firewall thing in your case fear

I remember back in the unreal days that when i just installed it and wanted to check the servers the game would just hang .. with the little firewall pop under asking permission

I have been talking to Smirftsch about it and he suspects it has something todo how DirectX 7 is used by Unreal / UT, whereas newer games use newer DirectX interfaces.

Now the odd thing is, Quake II, being an old game as well, runs perfectly and with high precision.

What I had todo was realign all mouse sensitivity settings of all games down a notch as both my mice simply behave as if they got some extra DPI - which I strongly doubt. When something goes wrong, it usually is related to some M$ piece of software...

Hyper, I also tested other mice, such as Razer and M$ and no-name brands. All in all, Logitech appear the best with regards to quality and stability - but that's my personal opinion only. Funny you would endorse M$ mice because those I had were among the worst of all for gaming... especially the one with the mousewheel that had no "stepping" was so totally crap for playing. Ah well.... If Razer's mice were shaped a bit better and the mice were more stable and a bit cheaper I'd probably use a Razer, had a few to play in the past too....

I got the Intellimouse Explorer v4.0, which works nice with games. In the past I always had trouble with the Logitech software (They make great mice, but the drivers are so awful)

You are right about the wheel tho. While I think the wheel is a huge improvement in Windows, internet and other text scrolling (You can acurately scroll line by line and scroll through long documents really fast), it works horrible for switsching weapons in Unreal.

I have a Trust Laser mouse which uses MS Intellipoint 4 software to assign buttons and wheel per game, works well and is cheap (I paid 15 pounds in the shop and its cheaper on the internet).

It works much better than the Logitech laser mouse I had before, and I don't have any problems with switching (middle button scroll for flak, rockets and click pipe switching for Lightning and asmd)
