Then leave a message, for example in the footer, which I can recognize to identify you.
A member that joined, never posted and shows otherwise no relevance to us is a waste of space. I sometimes sweep the database and when I delete 20 or 30 accounts I will certainly NOT waste my time on the tiny chance somebody registered a 2nd account, especially not with these improved spambots and the ridiculous number of idiots around FFS

What excuse? Making up account names is as easy as
setname XYZ...
Just because an account is NAMED }TCP{blah or whatever means shit as to whether or not that member created it
If you put in something you are sure a TCP member would certainly know TO BE YOU then that's another matter altogether, but the account was totally devoid of info that even remotely resembled anything identifyable - except for the name itself which means nothing...
If you're waiting for me to apologize you're going to wait a looooooong time my friend :-/

Well perhaps we could settle it to the following:
1. Make an announcement where you list all accounts you want to delete. Users should protest if they don't want their account deleted
2. Wait 7/14/x days.
3. Delete all accounts of users who did not protest.
It takes you little more time. Of course you have to wait 7/14/x days, but deleting accounts is not that urgent, IMHO.
You should users give at least one single warning before deleting their accounts.
(BTW: Does anyone know why it is that important to delete accounts of inactive people? I'm on several forums and if the members list shows 200 then there are perhaps 10 active accounts. Everyone knows that. It doesn't really take that much space on the server, does it? I remember downloading a backup of a forum once and it was about 6mb...
So why bother and waste your time with inactive accounts?)

I have to aggree with Wolf. I saw my name in there, (and on the server the other night), and I never made something like that. I want to thank Wolf for taking care of our server and its contents. If it was not for PLP like him and Carnage and Slaphead (new teamspeak server?) we would not have a good running game.

Well, ok, but most of it will be attachments such as maps and pics...
What does the server has ususally to safe about a user?
- avater. If there is one... I picked 20 accounts with zero posts and there was one single account with an avatar. The avater was 2.37 KB. Let's be generous and assume the average is 10KB a person (=factor 100 more than my tests show).
- posts. This post weights ~1KB. Assuming that most people write less in average and inactive members have in average 10 (which is way too much) posts this makes at maximum 10 KB
- user information: can't be more than 10KB
- attachments. Are they deleted when the account is deleted? If yes, it doesn't matter. If no, it doesn't really matter either, because people with <5 posts do not likely post attachments...
- personal messages. Same as for attachments. They are rare and they don't wight much anyway. Let's assume 10 pms / person. Makes about 10KB a person.
Put together: We have 224 members. If we'd asume that all of them are inactive, it also only takes 9 mb at total. Not much, IMHO...
And please notice that those statistics were pessimistic in all points...

Well maybe .... but if the name is afzliah43sllew and in their web-url it says something like www . myviagraurlfuckstore . org I will still just hit delete}TCP{the_kay wrote: You should users give at least one single warning before deleting their accounts.
I still don't see the point though. If you create an account, you do it to participate in the forum. You don't participate, then what's the account for? I can understand some people may need test accounts or some tech-admin whatever, but these special accounts are usually clearly marked or known for what purpose they are. People just register and then forget about their account... so why the hell should I bother asking before deleting them again
