Pc had a sunstroke

I think my old friend has been soaking up the rays a bit too much
And as a result i smelled something funny this afternoon

Yesterday i had me 2 BSODS wich is unusual coz i didn't have them for quite some time now .. didn't think much off it since i installed some new usb drivers and i just figured it where those ..
So took them off the pc again and whatayaknow it didn't crash again yesterday evening.

Now today i come home flick on the pc start all the usual stuff and put on some music to take a shower (at least i can try and sing along a bit).
Nothing out of the ordinairy there .. but then i come back down all fresh and peachy (at least for the whole 5 secs i was from under the shower) thought i'd might see what's going on on the ONS server so i open up my Firefox to take me a looksie .. POOF !! BSOD again ..

Hmmz thinking this is too much 3 times in 2 day's that can't be right .. and there's that smell again .. opened up the box and peeked inside to check if all the fans where happy and spinning
Found that my fan for the GPU card was kinda flipping out so fist thought that might be the reason for the cras .. hot card is usualy no good .. so popped out the old fan put in a new one and voila fans all happy again and pc reboots nicely .. but then .. damn there's that smell again .. so shut it off agaian to take a closer gander into the magic box ...

Now what does my eye see !!!!

I can't imagine 1 faulty fan could cause all that but u never know
Will try and replace the whole powerplug on the mobo and put in another powersuply and try it again ..

But as a result i won't be in the server's any time soon

I'm now on my trusty server so if ure playing on one of the servers and u experience some lag every now and again .. it's just me prolly googeling the life outa the i-net finding a solution for this weird thing

No idea m8, I would guess a short circuit somewhere (dust or melted connection, but I'd have thought a fuse would blow) or maybe the psu has been overloading since your last upgrade (whatever that was) and the recent weather has tipped it over the edge ? Pure guesswork, looks bad

Maybe you could trace what those burnt points feed (through the mobo manual) to isolate the problem area.

Not good my friend.
I would say that one of the power rails in your psu
is/has failed.The chances are that it took the fan out on your gfx card and not the other way around
The mobo itself may also be faulty.
You may beable to use the cpu and ram but i would not touch the gfxcard mobo or psu.
The price to get a new skt A mobo is high due to old technology,so
second hand may be cheaper.
Time for a new pc i am sry to say.

Well the good thing for u peeps is that i've given the server a brain transplant

Coz i won't be using the other cpu for a while so the server is now a amd 2600 with 1 gig of ddr ram .. should play better now i guess

Weird... these things rarely happen to me even though some of my hardware gets reeeaallly a bit hotter than I think is good for them.... But then I never overclock and always keep speeds within required specifications, not sure if that's helping to NOT overclock anything :-/

Nothing overclocked on my gaming machine
was all running standard.

Anyways gonna see if i can solder out the old main plug and put in another one i have on another died pc and switch the psu aswell .. will see if that brings back some life in there without the smell of melting plastic

That doesn't look good at all mate. I smell something funny too when I try to play but in my case it's ME rather than the computer. I am sooo ready for autumn or even winter you won't believe it. Damned heat.

I FIXED IT !!!

Did me some soldering and some more nifty stuff and whatta ya know there is still some life in my old friend

Got it running now with only the vid card in there and 1 stick of mem .. just in case it does decide to blow a fuse and take the rest with it

Gonna leave it running this evening and see what it does and then stick stuff back in there 1 by one tomorrow .

Just checked the pulg and it's not hot so it might just be that it was the broken cpu fan i put on there that was the culprit ..

I dont know your ambiant temp and if that cpu is a AMD Athlon 2600xp,things are running very hot
Clean that cpu fan and heat sink of dust will help but those temps
are very high for that processor,almost breaking piont.

Hehe no extra fans added there
Usualy idle temp is around 40 and stressed it's usualy around 55

But ..... doesn't seem 100% yet it is running but i checked the plug regulairly and it is still getting way to hot for my taste .. will have to do some more investigating.
