Sinfonia

Post by }TCP{Snowbird »

This was my first try at the UnEd 3. I liked Sinfonia so much that I wanted to remake it. I reused most of the old textures to get the real feeling of the map. I sent this to Furbious a few hundred years ago and he looked at it and told me what should have been obvious. It was too small for Tournament 2004 play. He then took it apart and put some new textures in it and built a few corridors under the level. It really looked nice. I was going to (and still am going to) expand on it, but I wanted the "Original remake" to get published b-4 UT 2020 came out. So here it is. I thank the original maker of the map, Marty Howe, for the insite of make a great map, and giving me the insperation to follow in his foot steps. If anyone wants to take this and change, put it up on a server, or print it out and use as wallpaper, they have my permission, as long as Marty does not mind.
Have fun and I would love feedback, positive or positive. :D

hehe

Remember, this was my first map. That was 1 1/2 years ago. I wanted it to be almost exact to the original. Hope you enjoy it.

btw. why you dont just select all actors and scale the map?
that way you get a bigger sinfonia, you just need to replace the items again and scale the static meshes too.
i made a little try and it seems to work:)

It has been a long time since I did this, but I believe they were exported and then imported with no conversion. I will check it out later and tell you.

I was thinking of that last night. I was thinking that it would not work, and when it did it would not look right. How did it look? did the textures scale also? I will give it a try later. Thanks for the input.

Scaling an entire map... interesting. I must look into that. Talking about static meshes. Do you make your own and if yes, what program are you using?

I think it can be done both with Unrealed itself and with 3d Studio Max. I would like to learn more about 3DSM myself.

Thanks Kobra, You sure can if you want. Can't hurt to take a shot at it both with your computer and with mine. I will try it also later today, but right now I am having Photoshop problems.

CAT, Yes I have made my own static meshes and yes it can be done in Unreal ed but only simple ones. 3D Max is a great program for something like that, and also MAYA, which comes with Unreal Tournament. Good luck with it.

Have you made changes to your map yet? I was going to get back to you on that skybox and never did. I will jump over to the right forum and write there. Frank

Just DLed it and I am dieing to check it out.

WOW!!! It really worked. What size did you take it up too? There are some things that have to be changed, I spent alittle time on it, but needs just alittle more fine tuning and then I think it will be done. Great job. As soon as it is done I will post it back here and maybe we can get someone to run it on a server. Cool, Thanks.

Well I worked on this thing all day long. (It rained today) The lights are OK. I only have a couple of problems. I guess through the resizeing, the door'S Colision became offset. I noticed this after about 3 hours of messing with the doors triggers and such. I wanted the mirror to be there, and tried and tried and tried. Like b4, I am stuck. The mirror button really does work. Epic is playing a prank on us all and made the mirror backwards.... :?

If you make a box, click a texture, and then try to make a mirror out of it, like in old inreal. It does not work. When you try to play the level, you get a bunch of HOM (Hall of mirros) but when you go in the ed, you can go "inbetween" the box you just made and see the background level behind you. OK MIRROR effect. I am going through forums and such, and they all say that you have to go through 20 different steps, just to see the level behind you, but not yourself. I am pissed. Oldunreal had the mirror effect in it, and it worked. Why does a new and improved UT 2004 have to go through so much just to get to c ur self?

Shit. I need a beer. I will get Sinfonia out to you tomorrow. You have to look at it and make changes where you want/can. Make sure the opening text is ok. I mentoined you, but did not go into detail. Get carried away, Fur the great.

LOL I remember in Unreal One when you have a non-standard fatness and stand in front of the mirror, it shows you the opposite effect.

Meaning: you are a FAT dude and stand in front of the mirror and see yourself all thinned out, and if you're thinned you see a real heavyweight... I wonder if such a mirror would actually sell ROFL might help a lot of fast food eaters feel better
