There are lots of pages that display your IP address to you... or you surely have seen that well known signature picture which tells you exactly what IP you have, what browser you use etc... :-)

I think that command was ipconfig but not sure under win98 right now

A simple way to get your IP even with a router is :
Get on AIM or any another IM program:
via AIM Direct Connect to somebody who runs a firewall and ask him what your ip is :P
via ICQ or MSN or whatever exotic alice like protocol you use, send a file to somebody and ask him what your ip is on his firewall :P

Thats how the Cee does it :/

And of course you can just post here and ask an admin to look up the logged IP :)

Your routers ip and your external ip are the same xav ...

U just have a different one localy .. u can have another ip when using a proxy for example but other then that u always connect to something using ure external ip .. router or no router .

To check external IP address:
http://whatismyip.com/

To check your real IP address (which uses your network card):
Run 'Command Prompt' and type in:

Code: Select all

ipconfig /all

Thanks Alice, but for some reason http://whatismyip.com/ is showing an IP beginning with 81.5....... for me (my IP is 213.106 ....) ?

The IPconfig command brings up a DOS box which disappears again before I can pause it lol ... so it probably works ok in Win98 with an appropriate logging or piping instruction.

The winipcfg works fine and is the command i was struggling to remember :) ... so does http://www.mijnip.nl/

Cheers all :D

iF you use a command prompt found here in XP- (All programs/Accessories/Command Promtp) You will get a dos window that won't dissapear :) then use the ipconfig command from there :)

Yes it is the same for Win98.

I was not sure that the DOS prompt box would work because I have disabled the autoexec.bat and config.sys files as I have no real need for DOS and I dont like to clog the system with unused settings, but I just tried it and it works :!:  :)

Booting to DOS would definitely not work without enabling those files.
