Hello boys and girls, today I have a question for the computer buffs/geeks/nerds around here :O
I am using Java and I got Version 1.5.0..Now I'm having some problems with it and wanted to check for a new version and saw, that the standard update version is 1.4.2.06 and thats the default update link, but that you can also update to 1.5.0 update 1.
Is the 1.5.0 just some beta thing or something that causes casulties because its a newly developed standard ? Is it safer to use 1.4.2.06 ? Or is 1.5.0 in general better than 1.4.2 ?
1.5.0 is beta. Under normal circumstances however, using a newer beta should not have any disadvantages over an older version.
On the other hand, why update if everything runs? If you had an older version before and everything worked fine with it, there was no reason to use a newer release. If you installed blank and have problems with 1.5 now, but you're certain you didn't have these problems with an older release, uninstall 1.5 and reinstall an older one and see if that REALLY was the culprit.
Of course the "standard" releases - or even the J2EE ones - are always "behind" the betas. J2EE the more so than the normal SDK/JRE, because it encompasses so many more APIs. Also, in corporate environments you will want to wait for the "reliable" releases rather than the betas.
Even though the current J2EE release is 1.3 still (well might have moved to 1.4 by now not sure), I really DON'T recommend using anything lower than 1.4 anymore. Even my SGS had trouble with 1.3 because the UDP networking API is flawed in 1.3...

I changed it because Azureus (which uses Java) was being slow and I read that the new 1.5.0 was supposed to speed it up..Now that I dont use Azureus anymore, it doesnt seem to matter anymore
Hopefully there wont be any troubles for downgrading ? :/
