lol good call carnage. but i think u just wanted your postcount back up!

anyways, i really like monster mash these days. it is my favourite gametype. one time, in dm-ironedge (my fave map for MM) i had 500 health, 900 minigun ammo, maximum jump, minigun+8, rifle+8 (with not so much ammo), lots of other guns on varying levels of power (highest was flak on +5) and still only 3000 points.

that 900 ammo was lasting me years, cause i also had 2*less ammo cost on minigun (im not sure as to wether getting two of them makes a difference tho...)

anyways, whats my point? well, a suggestion...

tentacles. you might think they would be impossible, but the simple thing to do would be to have them move straight upwards as soon as they are spawned (extremely easy to do, by my reckoning) and stop as soon as they come into contact with geometry (perhaps not so easy, since it might be sloped...)

most coop admins tend to put tentacls on the sky all the tme anyway heh.

maybe just put them in maps that you know doesn't have a sky...

A few things might be quite doable with a reasonable amount of effort, although I suppose downgrading other players or "cursing" them would lead to arguments. An enforced firepause or even blindness would be quite easy to achieve technically. But I'm pretty sure people would hate it hehe - hmm... gonna think about it :) Reverse walking... err... no :O

Playing as monster as in MCoop... to be honest, my intention with the MultiMesh technology was preparing for something like that, because I find the way it is achieved in MCoop undesireable. My new technology is very experimental, and very flawed in the current release (I fixed all the critical bugs already but the next release will just be another long public test for this technology).

Monsters getting points... Another MCoop similar idea, a scoring system for monsters would have to be designed so they could win. Someone got any detailed and highly intelligent ideas how to balance chances of the monster horde winning against average players?

Monster regenerating... I think that will be an option in the future... Monster gaining extras... hmmm.... not sure. By accident I had the one or other Critter run around with a shieldbelt, looked quite funny :) Imagine a pupae with shields :D

Actually I have created several in-between versions also, but they never saw the light of day. And publicly released are only 9b and 9F right now, some people still run 9DT3 for some unknown reason. 10alpha4 is the current experimental version running on TCP and Green River so that makes 4 versions in the wild at the most :)

Yup, Weapons have a "WasteFactor" for ammunition which is effective from on the first upgrade. Each upgrade giving you a "lower waste factor" accumulates. So 2 lowering waste factor upgrades are better than one. Also, if you pick up a gun you already have and the new gun's waste-factor is lower, you receive the lower waste factor (without you noticing it though). If you pick up a gun you already have but the new gun is higher upgraded, you get the ammo from the new gun and all upgrades from it.

Tentacles: MM does try to send Tentacles into the sky in exactly the manner you described :) Sorry not a new idea :P

happens all the time in coop. one time, a skaarj lord ended up with a super belt, and that made it kind invunerable...

Turning water into slime/lave... not possible.

na, im pretty sure the effects can be made...perhaps not the visual effects (well not without some mapping), but effect on health and stuff can be done

The curses and downgrading stuff could be used in teamgames then or something..And since it would only be temporary, there shouldnt be much room for arguments :/
Or maybe similar things like losing all collected guns, not being able to switch guns for a minute or players switching places during the game :l

Cant this "play as monster" mode be done like on Smartballs old server with his old mod, where ppl could take the monster skins and shoot the monster shots ? I have fond memories of that :P

For the Monster Scores..If monsters could actually grade up, they'd have an easier life to earn points.. All the heavy gun boost ups make the mod pretty easy when the monsters cant fight back properly :/
Therefore monsters need a possibility to retaliate..Something simple..Like for every killed human player, they gain whatever amount of ammo the player had added to their health :/
They could get points based on how well the person, they killed, was armed..or how long he lived without dying. Or by looking at the score he got since he spawned until they killed him and take a slice of that :P
Kinda like leeching the players score 50-50..so many possiblilities :/

And with gaining extras I dont mean belts and stuff..I mean upgrades like the humans can get with the blue dots, only that it helps the monsters now with more firepower or faster speed or faster spawn rate or higher amount of monsters spawning.. :l

I'll check this later, whichever ends in MonsterMash will be idea-credited with whoever gave the idea :) I think I like the special emphasis on teamgame-MMs of the firepause. Now just for some points:

The fact you don't ever see Tentacles in MM matches is admins decide not to use them :P simple hehe :)

Water into Lava/Pain whatever: I am no expert on the Zone-stuff in maps, but as far as I know you can't replace one zone with another dynamically. There are static actors in maps which are.. well.. STATIC as the name says and cannot be exchanged or modified during runtime. I could be wrong, but Zoneinfos are static to my knowledge. It wouldn't make much sense otherwise in light of how the editor works when compiling maps with changed zones...

Smartball's monsterplayers:
I don't exactly remember what smartball programmed there. I still have an old mod somewhere called "SBPawns". In order to use these pawns, you have to install them locally though - just like custom skins. But the real problem is the fact these are specific custom player pawn classes - just like in MCoop. The only difference is, in MCoop you select them by your initial playername (join with name "Queen" to become a queen), with Smartball's mod you select the class before entering the server (which you can do thanks to the INT file).
Problems involved are the limited class loader - after 16 or so classes it will stop loading additional models... stupid epic...
If your mod of Smartball is differently designed than I remember it, or you have a different mod of his, please elaborate.
If my technology works out one day, all of that will be quite unimportant though :)
