Hi guys,
I finally bought a new computer this week. Hopefully I will recieve everything next week. Then I can finally play UT2004 with more then average of 30-50 FPS!
I ordered the following:
- Intel Core i7 2600K / 3.4 GHz (SandyBridge)
- 8 GB DDR3 1333Mhz
- AMD/Ati Radeon HD6950 2GB
- SSD OCZ Vertex 2
- HDD Samsung Spinpoint F4EG 2TB
And some other stuff that you need to build a new system (powersupply, case, etc. But those aren't that interesting imo

)
Can't wait

Anyways, yes very nice i7s are very nice. Ive had problems with ATI in the past. But still is a nice card.
I agree with Muppet tho, 8gig - WTF you need that for.
Maybe take some pics when you get it all sortid out and let us have alook.

I'd rather go for 6 GB tbh, because you can make use of triple channel then!

First of all, memory is fucking cheap these days. the 8GB is a set of 2x 4GB modules costing 78 euros xD
Secondly, this is the newly introduced Sandy Bridge i7 CPU from intel. It doesn't support triple channel. Only dual channel. Hence the 2x 4GB
So it would have been either 4GB (2x 2GB) or 8GB (2x 4GB). I choose the latter. I will find ways to use that amount of RAM. RAMdisk anyone?
I can't delete stuff on my PC, I always want to save everything xD. So the 2TB will get full eventually. I will only use it as a data disk. And I like to organise everything nicely, so indexing won't be needed tbh

.
Windows 7 and all programs / games will be installed on the SSD, which is sexy xD

hope the vertex is 60gb or more...otherwise.. oi you got ...hrhr
just save the ssd for only OS and important progs like viruskiller and systemprog.
and leave the other progs like UT and other stuff at a new partition on ya 2tb.
ENJOY
ps. wot mobo you got?

60GB will be enough for me for Windows 7 and important programs. Offcourse I will install UT2k4 on the SSD aswell >:D
Currently I got a 20GB partition with Win7 on it and office, photoshop, etc. No problemo
I got the Asrock P67 Pro3. Got good reviews on the internet and is one of the cheapest boards I cud find and has everything I will need.

You spend all that dough on a high end machine and take an ASRock board

Looking good. I ecpecially like your graphic adapter - since it's all over the news how you can turn a 6950 into a 6970. Rate of success 99%! As reported here for example:
http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/ove ... idcard/159
It might be an exception

but this ASRock board aint that bad.
