I would like to start a topic about something you've all heard off no doubt.
December 21th 2012 is said to be the end of the world as we know it.

Very doubtful ... people have been predicting the end of the world on a regular basis ever since the world began ... there are a lot of con artists, pranksters, gullables (made that word up ) and foolish peeps with time on their hands I'm afraid

Nope nothing will happen.

First of all, every calender is made by human beings. Why would the world end conform a calendar that we made? Why would the world have to obey it?
Secondly, if I understand the Maya calender correctly, the new b'ak'tun that will begin at 21th december 2012 is just the new cycles of their calender. There is very little evidence for the fact that the Maya calender would stop at the 13th b'ak'tun as some New Age thinkers nowadays let you believe. In fact the Maya used a Vigesimal system (20-base) instead of our Decimal system (10-base). So I don't understand why ppl keep thinking that it won't go past the 13th cycle. A new cycle was always celebrated by the Maya's instead of feared.

All this New Age thinking is starting to annoy me. It's becoming a substitute for religion because religion has lost its position in this world. But still most people seem to have this need for such a thing as religion to understand the world around them or cope with it, and then there is New Age thinking, giving us the 'answers'. A mix between thinking that you can do and be everything you want backed up by pseudoscience or twisting around or misinterpreting claims of science (especially Quantum physics, because we still have very little understanding of it.).

This all got even a bigger attention when the 'documentary' "What the Bleep do we Know?" got released to the public. A documentary made by 3 members of Ramtha's School of Enlightenment. Some cult or sect similar like the Scientology Church. Based on the channeling's of this woman who claims to be in contact with a warrior from Atlantis 35,000 years ago, giving her wisdom, which she teaches on her part to people as long as they pay for it .

Go watch that documentary. It has some interesting things to think about, but twists a lot of the science around to fit their beliefs, especially the stuff on Quantum physics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_the_Bleep_Do_We_Know!

well , i doubt we will all die *Wiggle* but as the maya's said there will be a major change for the earth as for the human race.

i have discussed this many times with friends from school. one noted that some scientist's conclude there would be a pole-change between 2010 and 2020 wich would have a drastic effect on the world *Wiggle* in my opignion that could be the thing the maya's were reffering to. than again this is all speculation. if the south- and northpole swich i can only guess what the conciquenced will be at that time *wiggle* i do know that if it hapends, the winters would get allot hotter in the netherlands.

There was also said that in 2012 humanity will transcend into a higher form of life (wich i personaly doubt *wiggle*) and we would become a more spiritual being. thoug it might be fun, we could play pranks on the organic species. thoug i would mis wiggling around and i bet spirit fingers cant touch keyboards so overall i hope this one isnt the winning lot *Wiggle*

personaly i hope that in 2012 we all change into cute little hairy being with pom pon's sticking out of our head. we'd all shun agression and live in a happy wiggly world *Wiggle* but i guess thats just wishfull thinking.

There was an excellent novel a few years ago which continued the story from HG Wells' The Time Machine ... this second book travelled far into the future to various points including the end of the solar system (based on current scientific understanding) ... reading it was a very entertaining way to grasp the concept and breadth of time and the history of the world (I can't remember exactly what it was called, I lent it out to someone and didnt get it back ... but it was endorsed by the Wells family)

I also think it's bullocks, but if the earth will really end that day... so frickin' what?
Lots of people are really stressing about it and crying they don't want to die... if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen.
And no way are you going to stop it. =P
Bring it mother frickin' earth. =P

isn't that just a nice way of some religious guy saying "we all die"?

well , i guess its kinda like you get to fill in the blanks yourself *Wiggle* it could also be evolution , or god pulling a prank *Wiggle*

evolution doesn't come in 1 year only, evolution is that our pinky becomes smaller over generations

Nah seriously, the world as we perceive it definitely will end, but probably not at that date. Personally I think humankind will have eradicated itself by the time it happens.

I can just agree with you, Wolf. The sooner mankind will be gone from planet Earth, the sooner nature will get a chance to recover from our unconsidered exhaustion and pollution. And we're working on it at top speed! Who knows, maybe we make it until 2012?

Transform into a higher life form, Wiggle? Lol, we neither deserve it nor has there been evolution in the past 2000 years. We're rather going back to the stone age!

we'll have evolved so we have:

One large, tray shaped appendage for one arm (Holding Fast Food/Takeout)

One gigantic tongue (so we can eat the food all at once)

At the end of the other arm there will be no hand, only one finger (For pressing remote, scratching ass, etc)
