It would be under 800 Euros (about 1000 Dollars). I want a good system, and I know what to look for, so I will most likely build one myself. I do not like Vista, and a Mac is too unfamiliar to me. I have also tried Unix 9, and it was just too difficult to jump from Windows to Linux. Soooo, I guess I will stick with my XP for the time being, and buy something around a 3 gig processor, and 2 gig ram. The Grafics card, will have to be strong, and I am comfortable with the ATI Radeon Series, but I have not been up-to-date with anything this past year, so b-4 I buy, I will deffinatly ask here for all of your advices. ;) Frank

No normal person would ever buy an Alienware or Dell PC :p
And what do I do with my extra Ram on my Mac, which has even less games available than a 20 yr old Amiga ? :p

moin;

this could be true (..by the way, i use bootcamp for ut3 on vista - native boot on my Mac), but in this case, ONLY;
gaming is "secondary" for me! ut is enough @ the moment.^^

first: i use an dual-quadcore for my work/private work, like movie composing in apple finalcut studio - here "i need" from my 10Gigs of RAM almost 10 Gigs (more isn't usefull for my doings..) screenshot when i updated my new FCP-suite.. new upgrade. looking forward to know how it use the new nehalem architecture :shock:

sec.: i use one of my machines to archive (copy) my (LEGAL) private movie archive to my/our apple TV; streaming etc. - see screenshots below.

MacPro Model 2006/2007

maybe interesting, for you, too :)

oki doke, i must sleep now.. hopefully see you all, soon! ^^

"midnight regards"; steff'

The only thing I can say about this thread is: "We have 64-bit operating systems for a reason."

Hi Gollum!

Really nice system, but isn't this a dual-dualcore (not a dual-quadcore)?

Coco.

P.S.: Handbrake is a genious freeware tool! I use it for re-encoding my videos for the iPod touch.

--> heya coco :o) :
the screenshot shows 2 dualcores (2 "units" and both with 2 3ghz cores)

--> a dual quadcore is simply: 2 "units" and both with 4 x.ghz cores

p.s.: i hope i understand your question, (sorry)? ^^

when i finished the configuration of my new nehalem "dual-quad-core", i'll show/post the screenshots of the cpu and ram behavior (maybe with handbrake, again ^^)

--> handbrake= simply the best freeware-converting-tool, ported from linux. i use it from version 0.8x on the mac osx plattform.
+++windows users should be delighted, too that this GREAT tool is ported since version 0.9.x to windozz!+++

greetings; steff' :D

Hi!

Sorry, I still don't get it. Does your system have 4 or 8 CPU cores now?

Coco.
