What is "camping"?

I personally think that camper are people from the NL with a Mobile

(don´t hurt me Carn

) No, what I wanna say: I think Maps should be played as they are made. If a map give a good defence point what is permanently in the line of fire, I think it would be insane to don´t use it. I don´t mean that someone should stay there permanently (but whit a good teamplay, with good distributed tasks, why not?), I mean that some players permanently care about such points. Do you think that´s camping? Some, most unknown Players on the Server, complain about "camping". I like to get clarity about that.

Hi!
It is different in Onslaught than in other gametypes. Usually, the term "camper" comes from Deathmatch and means that someone just waits somewhere for someone else passing by to shoot him before he can react. It usually is a sign of weak skill, because many bad players can't do frags otherwise.
In Onslaught, the defense of a node (or the core) is an important part of the game. So the line between camping and defending is very thin. But whenever someone is camping without defending anything, he would be a camper in ONS as well.
Usually, what I don't like about camping in ONS is that the camper completely relies on his teammates to do the job of attacking nodes and thus winning the match. It's always easier to sit in a fat tank, shooting anything that comes across than to find a way to attack a well guarded node. I think, some guys are doing the easy job there.
I've played many games where I was the only attacker and I can tell you that it really sucks. Some help from the backside is badly needed sometimes, but people just don't get their asses out of the Goliaths, Levis, Hellbenders or Turrets.

why do people put there ass in a turret in the 1st place? =P
then your a easy target that got blowed up prety fast after you start shooting
but camping in dm is prety bad if you camp in dm you could better start playing counter strike xD

In Deathmatch some peeps would camp spawn points and shoot peeps who respawned before they could react or pick up an effective weapon, which is the lamest form of camping. Similarly weapon or ammo pickups could be camped as peeps had to go there ... although this was slightly less lame I think.
Fortunately this is not really such an issue in TAM as everyone spawns at the start of the map and have a full arsenal of weapons and are ready to goooooo
In the original Unreal at least there was the almost universal concept of fairplay .... camping spawn points, using invisibility or amplifiers, shooting players while they were clearly afk or talking or when they had clearly just respawned .... all were frowned upon and avoided by good players. You still got the occasional maveric who claimed that it was "part of the game" to do these things but they quickly became branded for missing the point ... which was to provide a level playing field, win by skill and increase enjoyment for everyone. Ah the good old days

First thing is that the camper mustn't care about dodging at all. For many peeps, this is the prime prerequisite to be able to hit something. Secondly, a turret has a great zoom, so chances to hit someone before he can hit you are pretty good. And finally, turrets rarely are the first target. Attacking players will most likely shoot the node or defending vehicles. The turrets become quite dangerous when the attacker is fighting someone else and being shot by a turret at the same time.

I usually think that campers are people that just sit somewhere out of the line of sight of the enemy and stay there while the rest of the team does the dirty work then come out shouting when the team won saying "YAYZ I WINZ YOU ALLZ GOTZ PWNED!!!"
Kinda makes me get pissed off but what you gonna do?

There is a simple explain between camping and defending.
Defending:
Hold the nod with all weapons u have and reload the node.
Camping:
The player doesnt care anything about nodes and link setups.

well in my view the word "camping" describes that someone takes the best spot which has the better tactical advantages... the best example for Unreal gamers is the map Deck17 (or back in the good old times Deck16^^) when ppl just walk to the top of the map and snipe anyone down.
me personlay never camp, but not because i think its totally lame and cheap... im just way too impatient ^^

The closest thing to camping that i do in team fortress 2 (and i dont believe its camping because im still in danger of dying) is that i shoot some stickybombs on a place that the enemy cant see but that i can and wait untill an enemy comes to kill him, however i usually just do that untill the defence in that spot (a tunnel for example) is up and ready and then im outta there and back to killing

If anyone thinks otherwise speak and explain why it is camping
Man that was a long post XD

Imo ''permanent'' camping is the only way for weak players to score points. It's worse when dudes like that come back to the same camp-place, even if they're being spotted and taken down every time

It's annoying, but this is different in every game type- there's no reason for camping in DM, it means that player is weak. In ONS it's not like that- camping at enemy node, to kill enemies ocupping it, or to destroy it when not defended, is a good behaviour. Good flag camping in CTF is fair as well
