MonsterMash server problem

Carnage, we've had a couple of monstermash maps that were not redirected as designed: StrictlyDiesel, DM-Travincal, Alphalab. There are probably more that don't work.

Also, for some reason, files at www.oldunreal.com/kdstcpmaps appear to be MISSING (this is unrelated to the redirect problem but we used to have ALL our maps there for local install).

Also a question: is it intentional that old clients (pre-227) are NOT allowed to join?

Yes Van told me about those maps i still have to look into why the do not download.
As for the kdstcpmaps the maps in the redirect are just all the maps on my server (installed maps)

As for the pre 227 not joining .. i have no idea
i did not look into the 227 much .. i just installed it and added the correct packages and that's about it
Could be there is a setting for it

Ah lol.... I was assuming you checked out the 227 patch in as much detail as you always checked out new stuff. Yes there's a setting for it... will take a looksie when I get around.

There are 2 settings allowing / disallowing older clients.

The one is located in Network -> UnrealIntegrity, which is probably the one you checked. The other is under Networking -> TCP/IP Network play (I think)

I corrected the 2nd one and now older clients can join.

Why are there 2 of those...

That's development historical. The "integrity" feature was created by me first, because it allows to give very detailed instructions to players when they are kicked, similar to when you are kicked in ut2k4, you sometimes get a LOAD of text. Also the text there is configurable.

The 2nd feature was implemented by Smirftsch because the integrity feature only worked after a client had already joined. The problem here is that older clients download very slowly only because they do not have the redirect, so they might never get the message that they are supposed to upgrade. The 2nd feature works on the network HELLO message and tells the player he needs to upgrade, unfortunately, the message here is not configurable (I think).

Anyway... it works now....

I wish those redirects were working though....

Thank you Wolf. I can now play using Unreal Gold or Reg with 227.
