Ok having trouble deciding now..

Anyone who has been following now of recent releases, penryn and phenom.. from intel and amd respectively..

Phenom appears to perform not as well as many people hoped, but are still nice cpu's regardlessly..
Considering I will be buying in january, the rest of intel's penryn's and amd's phenom's will be released.

So my questions is..

Go with amd's spiderplatform, Radeon HD3780 512MB (possible crossfire in future) and a GP9700 (2.4ghz) or GP6550(2.4ghz too i think)

Or go with p35/x38, NX8800GT 512MB(possible sli in future) and a E6750, Q9450, E8400

Something along that line..

Plz let me know what you think..

Soz Ghost I only look at specs when I am buying, so my knowledge is therefore out of date by some months.

Well I would definitely go for Intel(I self am building a system atm with E6750) because as you say the Phenom doesnt perform as good as people thought. I dont know much about the Penryn yet but expect it to be better then the Phenom. And I would also get the 8800GT 512mb, possibly a Factory Overclock version. It really is worth to put it in sli or just take one and go for sli later. If you choose Intel then go for P35 unless you have much money to spend and want the best of the best then you take x38 but I personally think its a waiste of money.
(x48 is aproaching too with its 1600MHz FSB but dont expect much parts to be compatible with that until half 2008)
Conclusion:
Intel and Nvidia rules :)

Hi Ghost!

Well, I plan to buy a new PC too, soon I hope. But to be honest: The market develops that fast that any information is already old a few weeks later. I've been a little lazy checking all the news and reading the articles about the new CPUs the last weeks, so I'm not really informed at the moment. I didn't even know that the Phenom is out already!?

Anyway, from what I've heard, I can only confirm what Phenom (the user! ;-)) wrote above. The Penryn will most likely be faster than the Phenom, so I would go for this one unless there's a reasonable price difference. The X38 is the high level alternative to the P35, but also quite expensive. And you need DDR3 RAM to use it's capacities, which makes it even more expensive. I didn't hear anything about an X48 chip yet, but as Phenom said, it will take some time until products will make use of it.

As for the GPU, I think it doesn't really matter that much. You can exchange your card in 6 months and all new cards will be better than anything you can buy now. So I wouldn't spend too much for it (I that did in the past and it never paid off). Simply buy the best you can get for around 250.- Euro and do the same again if coming games cause problems on your graphics card.

Coco.

penryn is out as well guys :P

you guys living in boxes or something?

Mass release for both phenom and penryn are due for january 2008 though..

I am prolly gonna buy a E8200 (2.66ghz)

8200 isnt out yet though it will be released in a few weeks. The only one thats out of the Penryn line is the Core2Extreme Q9650 I think. And btw not all X38 based MoBo's are DDRIII. Some are DDRII or even DDRII and DDRIII but it is still a waiste of money

I'll just see what i'll do.. I'm thinking of buying an older processor now..
Cuz I was like.. better make my mobo future proof and spend less on a cpu so that I can upgrade.. then buy a simple p35 and an expensive cpu with not upgrade capabilities..

So prolly gonna go with an x38/48 with luck ddr2 but if not possible then ddr3.. 8800gt and prolly and e2160/6550/6750... latter would be best ofcourse but hey..

Just buy mediocre shit now and upgrade a few parts again in 1-2 yrs, once new stuff becomes cheaper again and you really need it..

I know, I just wrote that you need DDR3 to use it's capacities. If you use DDR2 RAM, you don't have much benefit from the X38.

Go for INTEL Ghost!
They use less power,so are cheaper to run.
AMD/ATI are well behind now in the technology race.
