Yes honor is American .... actually I quite like the idea of simple spelling and grammar provided it doesn't create ambiguities or change the meaning (like the example you quoted Wolf

).
What irks me is when some UK documentaries use kilometres instead of miles; its logical I know, but it makes my head hurt trying to convert on the fly

Its better to use kilometers. We in Poland are using it.
