I have heard that the DX10 system is great for gameing. I just do not have the time $$$ or the patience anymore to start something new. Slappy, when you buy one, come over and show it to me.

I ALSO said the same for the XP. I did not want it, 'cause I was happy with the '98 system. I just do not want to go buy Vista just because of the gameing.

XP was quite a blessing after I had to (mis)use ME all the time
DX10 is just another reason to make games with better gfx and less gameplay. The more they can do with gfx, the less they do with story and actual playability. FPS are always the same game, just with different enemies. The Genre doesnt offer anything new or innovative and so they're depending on improving the gfx only, fueled by gfx whores who want to have great looking games for their expensive gfx cards..As long as it looks good and works as a show off to others, its all well I guess -__-

I basically agree with your underlying point Cee, that gameplay is most important, but better graphics (and PC power) definitely help in suspension of disbelief and immersion into the game imo. Compare Mike Singleton's MidWinter with Far Cry, any early strategy game with Rome:Total War, or the Ultima series with Morrowind

I think your fear that companies will just concentrate on being pretty and rehash old ideas is probably true for the majority of games, but that has always been the case Dumbing down for consoles is a bigger threat to decent gaming I think.

However, I am confident that occasional excellent games will continue to be produced just like the music peeps continue to produce the occasional gem despite the majority of tracks released being pap (as always)

And yes DAFrank, I would still be using Win98 if I could get the drivers and graphic updates I only switched from Win98 about a year ago or less
