Funny, that video material is from the PC scene demo Lifeforce by Andromeda Software Development - one of the most popular demos of all time. The narrative text has been added though (and replaced the great music in the demo).

If you want to watch the demo in its original form, you can get it here (highly recommended). It will render all the 3D graphics in realtime (in full HD if you like).

Enjoy!

Edit: The music is included in .ogg format (in case you like it).

I didn't know this one, but I love the 3D art the scene manages to produce. Years ago I saw a demo from Farbrausch (FR-08) which was just 64k but ran for something like 15 minutes with music.

Anyways, I think the creator of the video just used the video for his narration of Les Visible's poem.

Yeah, it's really amazing. I was once part of the demoscene and still have an eye at the releases. It has evolved a lot over the years.

Anyway, the competitions in 64k resulted in some great releases. But there's an even stricter category, namely the 4k one.

One of the best 4k demos ever made is elevated by Rgba & TBC. The executable is 4095 bytes and includes code, music and graphics. Those not willing to download and execute it, can watch it on YouTube here:

However, if you don't believe this is just 4k, go ahead - download and run it yourself. :-)

@Marwin: Nice, I didn't know the original presentation was on YouTube as well. Great find!

@Hyper: I've just checked it on my PC again and like on Marwin's and your machine, it crashes here as well. However, I found the reason and the solution for this problem. ;-)

The executable is packed with an executable compressor called "Crinkler". Unfortunately, the version that was used back in 2009 isn't really compatible with Windows 7, so the intro works on older Windows versions, but not on 7 (and up, I think).

However, the solution is simple: You can download the most recent version of Crinkler at www.crinkler.net and use it to recompress the original executable. Just put both, the packer and the intro, into the same directory and run:

Code: Select all

crinkler.exe /RECOMPRESS elevated_1920x1080_hq.exe
It will unpack and repack the executable. The result will even be some bytes shorter (due to improved compression) and the intro works perfectly on Windows 7 64bit (at least for me).

Check this screenshot to see what the program does:

One final note: It's perfectly normal that when you run the intro, the screen will turn black for a while and you won't see anything but your mouse pointer (probably wondering if it crashed again). The program will algorithmically create the terrain and the music waveforms in that time. After about a minute, the intro will run like seen in the video. Enjoy!

Thanks a lot. This demo is nothing but jaw dropping.
