My monitor turned out to be too good for my system? It is a ACER x203h.

Everything looks good, until the windowa screen comes. I have a ATI radion 9700, with 128 MB ram.

I like the system, but this is the second b-day present from my daughter, in 2 years, that I can not use because of the system. Grrrrrrr.

If anyone has a hint on what I can do, please tell me. I have DLed the lasted driver, but no luck. I think I will change this one in, for a normal monito. This one is a 16:9 format, and my primary is a normal. ****Sniff****

Maybe you need to run through some ATI Wizard to enable dual mode. That way you can set different resolutions for each output? Catalyst Control Center, isn't it? (I work mostly with NVIDIA stuff..)

You need a new graphics card, mate! This one is really old (I know it, cause I got the same one in my notebook). As far as I know, the ATI drivers can't operate in 16:9 mode with this chip.

There are, however, alternate drivers, the so called Omega drivers that can do it. Only payoff is that you might not be able to use the latest drivers. But if the Omega drivers work fine for you, they could be the solution for your problem. Note: You have to uninstall your current (ATI) drivers before trying these!

Having a 4:3 and a 16:9 or 16:10 monitor connected to the same PC isn't really a problem, since you can have different solutions on each one. Just select the "Extend Windows desktop to this monitor" option for the 2nd monitor in the display options. Then you can set up a different resolution for it.

Yeah, I did this, and it got half way through the wiz, and froze. I also normally do my settings myself, but after it froze in advanced settings, I went through the wizard.

@ Coco, :O I did not know that the ati could not drive a 16:9 monitor. I will give the Omega Drivers a try later on. Thanks guys. Frank

In general, they do, of course. But with the Radeon 9600 or 9700 chip, the drivers normally won't offer a 16:9 resolution. Or do you find something like 1280x720 there?

Well, I did have the 1600x900 that the monitor needed. But the monitor never went to that res. I downloaded the drivers that you gave me, and they also did not help. I am going to see what my daughter says, when she comes back from work. She works at Media Markt, and she has a few good friends there, that, I hope, will know what I shoud do. But I think that I will end up getting a normal 19 incher. Thanks for the help. Frank
