I tried that once... I got a headache the next day because I tried to "install" a game. LOL
When it becomes more user friendly, I will try it again.

When did you try it?
Lately, Ubuntu has made great steps towards more userfriendlyness for non-geeks

I am a computer freak. I just did not like the way it handled, and everyone knows Frank juust dont have time to learn new stuff. I had the free version a computer mag gave out, and I think it was version 6. I know that it is up to ver 10 or 12 now, and I am itching to take a look at it. I just need someone to help me when I get it installed.

No need to buy it. It's free. :hurray: For those who upgraded to Vista you may want to read this article and see why linux is looking better all the time.

Oddly, most of the games I play are listed as garbage or bronze

Linux is cool and the security of it out ways any microsoft os.
But it is way to long winded.
I could write a list of games that I play offline on my game pc,
but that list would be very very long.
The amount of games that are compatable with linux is next to none.
Here is a word to scare all linux users.
DIRECTX 10.
Direct3d is not opengl and nor is the future of gaming.
I wish I could see you on a unreal3 server Kay,but for you that will never happen.

DX10 doesnt scare anybody :/
If thats the one and only selling point of Vista, then its quite a sad thing. PC gaming is already down the tube and more and more games are only being ported to PCs after their development on a console. Just look at all the hassle with patches and fixes and copy protections and then tell me you still consider a PC a superior gaming platform. All we are getting are FPS, RTS and MMORPGS for monthly fees.. Thats why dx10 doesnt really matter, just save the Vista money and get either a ps3 or an xbox360 for it and use ur computer for the GOOD OLD GAMES.. Too bad those often dont run under Linux :l

I haven't seen anything that sells Vista to me and plenty of things that make me think I wouldn't want to touch it with a barge pole. Huge overheads, corporate invasion and dictatorship

I only need a simple platform to play games on, XP is already way over the top and bloated

. If DX10 will only be available for Vista AND future games require it then I guess I will be forced, kicking and screaming, into getting it ... but I'm not happy about it
FPS, RPG and strategy happen to be the game types I like

HERE, HERE!!!!
I agree fully and although I enjoy my XP, I have often thought of going back to '98. It was dependable, mostly stable on my system, and was allot smaller than the xp. But as long as I do not buy a new computer that comes with Vista, I will never own it, and have no urge to go out and buy it.
As for the games that can only run on a Vista system, well that is money that I will keep in my pocket, because there are other things in life that are more important (like UT 2004 and my beloved friends at TCP)

Well I friend of mine has a DX10 pc and also a xbox360.
The graphic the pc are now starting to be better than the 360.
I speak from seeing and playing on both bits of kit.
Like it or not Vista will be the only way forward for pc gaming.
And Cee,the PS3 and Xbox360 both download patches for their games
and you still have to pay for a monthly tariff.
The same argument was made about XP when it first came out
but you all are having to use that OS,apart from you Linux/MacOS peeps.
I am not saying that it right,I am just pointing out that this is the shape of things to come.
How many of you have played and seen DX10 games?
It is very impressive,to the point of OMFG!
For me Keyboard and mouse are still better for playing FPS games over joypads.
