I'm really glad you have. When the egoes move off this game really rocks. I disliked it that you discarded the SUSongPlayer in favor of redoing maps with UMX.-=gTfMinus=- wrote:Hello....well,the fact of the matter is,I'm having the most fun I've ever had in unreal...
Certainly, you gotta download ALL songs before joining a single map, which can take a long time to download the first time you join the server. The total download data is still less, because no additional or "new" maps are created.
Also, you might have considered putting music packs for downloads on a cheap web-hosting service.... obviously, you do have enough free time for this kind of undertaking if you manage to do new music each week.
MonsterMash is also "Coop", and other forms of coop exist not just playing through the single player story together. However it's right the overall Coop could still be made a lot more entertaining.-=gTfMinus=- wrote:Nah..CO-OP blows grits in regular play.....buncha young kids who cant play dm...OOps...I just reread that statement and it sounded a little harsh{sorry}I just dont care for coop unless its just with a couple people I like and no modifications, especially illhaven and some of the more unheard of coop maps:)
One thing I found extremely poor about it was linearity. Even in the old DOS game Hexen 1 you had inter-related maps with states changed during transitions, which Unreal does not have.
In other words, when you leave a map in Unreal and come back later, all will be back at the state it was when the map was first launched, that includes all monsters being alive again etc. Because of this, normal Coop is linear where you cannot "go back" at all. Some map-packs have "go back" ability though and there this effect is really annoying.

Hmmmm, music map packs...now that is a great idea Wolf!Damn, why did'nt I think of that?As far as the time thing,I just take about 3 to 4 hrs 1 day a week and add/convert to umx and upload.Secondwind has chipped in getting the mp3's and uploads em so I just have to convert and reup.It still does take some time.Hopefully we will have our hosted web up in the next month or so and the musicpack thing sounds like a great idea! Thanks

... well that's the ... uh... other thing.
I'm not sure this kind of music is very Unreal-like. On some maps it's really cool or matches the atmosphere ("Toxicity" on "DmToxic" etc) but the average Metal song doesn't belong in Unreal IMO :-/
Also, the UMX wrapper has certain limitations when it comes to MP3 usage. For example, you cannot use VBR encoded MP3s (which provide equal or better quality at lower space usage when used wisely).
God damn... why not pull out some S3Ms or good ol' Protrackers from the AMINET... 10 times more "Unreal" like and just a fraction of the size :-/

ive now got a very big collection of musicks from old computer games. mainly rpgs. alot of them go very well with a big, spacious coop map.
although, could anyone suggest an old game which might have some decent town music. right now ive got the kikori village music from zelda 64 and the town music from one of the old phantasy stars
