I'd personally aim for a team amount of 8 or 10 and then plan it out, since that'd make 2 divisions and would enable a k.o round afterwards.

Maps maps..I like ppl choosing whatever map they wanna play, that way some surprises could happen :P
Then again, some maps just plain out suck, but if ppl are notified earlier on.. Maybe maps can be posted, then the teams try the proposed maps and decide if they're ok and then can play, since there are some maps that make problems like fps issues or whatever :/
It also depends on the servers..Since I doubt that every server has all the maps humanity could choose, maybe you could mention some maps before the tournament and we make a list of 30 or 40 :P

Home and away wouldnt be that long..in a division of 4, it'd only be 6 matches which isnt even 2 months..Games can also played during the week, not only at weekends, so its all more flexible..Somebody is always around to admin, even if they dont know how :P

Maps will be 3, frag count 50..the normal stuff :P

The only reason for home and away is, that both teams should have the chance to pick the majority of maps.. I guess it could be dropped, but then its a hassle to figure out who picks the deciding map.

If you have an US server, ppl can decide to play on an US server, if they're the home team. I wouldnt really wanna play there though, I'm ass enough in Europe already ;_;

About the game rules..I think everybody participating knows how to play :P

Or wait..I had some odd idea..If we want to avoid home and away matches, we could play 4 maps instead of 3 and arrange points for how the game ended..3 for winning, 1 for draw, 0 for loss :P
Does that sound better ? :P

... in which case both teams picked 2 maps each? Sounds just as good to me as home/away.

As for maps I encourage people proposing maps, but since it's our tourney our blacklist is indisputable. And do you really want to have people suggest new maps during the tourney? I'd say everyone come with maps to play NOW before it starts.

For practical resons, it might be better to choose say THREE maps. They can be custom maps. I propose a small map like for instance examination, a larger sniper map like observatory and something in between like sinfonia. The team with the total higest amount of frags would win.
They must be fixed maps so the matches can be compared afterwards, and preferably relatively unknown maps. So not the maps I chose here as an example.

I'm willing to set up a dedicated high bandwidth 2 vs 2 server just for this tourney, and make a web page to post the results.

The same 3 maps for everyone every match might be a bit too restrictive ZZ and could be difficult to agree on (though its fine with me so long as they are all Fusion maps :P).

Why is it more practical to play 3 maps than 4 ? Is it the time required to play 4 ?

Personally I prefer the 4 map idea. Maybe post the TCP map list here and ask any none TCP peeps that we invite for comments ?

Maybe rather next week :P

As for the maps.. 4 maps sound good and I'd say that each team playing should post 5 maps they would want to be played during the tournament..Those would be added to the tournament map list and when every team submitted 5 maps, we got all allowed maps :P

The 4 maps idea seems also to be a good thing, considering that there are less but longer matches, which makes less schedule and appearance work :l

The problem with 4 or 5 maps is the time needed to play those maps. If you play three maps a match can be played on one night. Four or five would mean at least two nights. And the problem with everyone playing different maps are :

Everyone likes to play their own favorite maps, which might not be their opponents' favorite

You cannot compare results between teams if the maps are different so a ranking system would be more difficult.

Playing three relatively unknown maps would give every team the same handycap. The maps are not very important. This should be a test of skills, not a test of how well a player knows map a or b.

How long would it take to play 4 maps ? Perhaps we should do a test. Larger maps and teams that have similar skills might make the match take longer to play. I would think that a 4 map match with a 50 frag limit could be played in 2 hours or so but I am not sure. We could lower the frag limit if necessary ?

I think Cee meant that each player should choose 5 maps that would be put into a pool from which the teams choose each match. He wasn't suggesting playing 5 maps each match.

The 3 map comparison idea is interesting but I think that it would introduce more bias than it solved if you are trying to measure general ability. The main purpose is to have fun rather than focus too closely on results ?

Personally I think that we should use the TCP list and consider additional suggestions from any players not in TCP before the tourney starts.

If we play to the TCP list the maps are (or should be) known to everyone well enough that peeps arent scrabbling around trying to find weapons. By playing 4 maps each team gets at least 2 maps that they like.
